We live in a globally relational world but when challenged we lack effective relational skills so we fight dirty.
Are you struggling in any of your personal or professional relationships? You are not alone. The quality of our lives is directly measured by the quality of our relationships. Whether weekly, or through half, 1 or 2 -day couples' intensives, I invite you to master full-respect relational-living. Partnering & parenting and every other relationship in between, requires skills. I help you organize your thoughts, spot what you'd like to see transformed and the way to it. Mainly, I work with the parts of you that won't use the skills. My work is collaborative & interactive, shaped & refined by over 20 years in the field. Bilingual/Lic.

I often use mindfulness based strategies, including AEDP (an attachment-based theory) and IFS (Internal Family Systems), and interpersonal relational work.
I am so proud of you for starting this process of looking for a therapist for your self or someone you love. It takes tremendous courage to begin. I am a psychotherapist who believes strongly in the power of the therapeutic relationship, which can allow healing to take place. I work with individuals in adulthood and believe that therapy should be tailored to each individual. I meet with a wide variety of clients, including those with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, parenting and relational concerns, anger management, addictions and low self esteem.

Everyone hits a bump in the road from time to time. Maybe you're going through a difficult transition, such as the loss of a job or loved one. Maybe you worry too much...but can't seem to stop. Maybe you struggle with difficult relationships--or spend so much time caring for others that you've neglected yourself. Sometimes we just get stuck, and we aren't sure why. Sharing our concerns with a caring professional can help us find solutions, improve our sense of self and our relationships, provide safety and warmth, and help us find more meaning in our lives.

I provide useful and in-depth psychotherapy in Connecticut, New York, Oregon, and California. People are in a constant developmental process, whereby symptoms are signs of ongoing struggles to sort through past experiences while organizing oneself in present living. Depression, anxiety, & personality traits are markers of this process. Therapy with me would seek to aid in your understanding of how & why you live the way you do, and hopefully lead to change. My hope is that we can find a way for you to live more fully and for problems to be comprehensively understood, formulated and articulated, and resolved in a sustained way.

Hello and welcome to my practice. Asking for help is not easy, so I am so glad you are here! Therapists are not a one size fits all and finding the right fit for you, your family, and/or your child is so important for therapy to be successful. My approach with clients is always collaborative, genuine and warm, and I use both empathy and humor. I am client-centered, strengths based, and solutions focused. I utilize multiple therapeutic modalities to correspond with the needs of each individual client, meeting them where they are at.

I work with couples, families and individuals to help them deal directly with their problems using a solution-based approach.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
