I am a licensed, clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience. I help clients address difficult, painful emotions and the concomitant thoughts and behaviors that hinder life and interfere with healthy development. My approach is developmental and psychodynamic. I focus not only on symptoms but, more importantly, on understanding and addressing root causes that create difficulties and interfere with health and progress. Within a safe, collaborative, confidential relationship, issues are addressed to facilitate a deeper self-understanding and a greater sense of freedom.
In child treatment, I assess communication, temperament, development, and relationships to increase secure attachment and healthy relationships. Various techniques may be used, based upon extensive training, including traditional talk therapy, art and play therapy, behavioral analysis, questionnaires, and parent-child assessments.
My background includes a BS/Honors in Psychology, M.S., and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Vanderbilt University; M.Ed./Human Development, Harvard University; NIMH Research Award; past Chief Psychologist, Mental Health Services West; past consultant, St. Vincents Hospital; member of the Oregon Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.
