Do you struggle with anxiety, fear, grief, depression? Are you having difficulty adjusting to an important life transition? Do painful emotions stop you from doing the things you enjoy or interfere with work, family or other relationships? For the last 25 years I have helped clients find more effective ways of managing emotions and patterns of mind that seem unbearable. I would like to embark on a voyage with you to help you discover a new path forward, one that teaches you how to respond skillfully and mindfully to emotional difficulties, and best nourishes your deepest capacity for healing.

I am intensively trained in several evidence based approaches to treat anxiety, depression, grief, trauma and chronic pain. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and other therapeutic modalities that teach you effective skills to manage difficult emotions.

I understand that each person has unique situations and needs. I will tailor a treatment program that fits your needs and helps you reach your goals. I work with adults, elder adults, and teens who are 16 years and older. I also provide clinical supervision to doctoral psychology students seeking licensure.

Rebecca Smith McCracken's Groups

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Are you stuck in the negative cycle of chronic depression and anxiety? This 8-week group provides proven, innovative skills to help you break the cycle of depression and anxiety once and for all. You will learn strategies that help you see clearly that thoughts and emotions come and go. Many find that these skills help them side step the mental habits that lead to despair, excessive worry, and self-blame. Hands-on skill building exercises are taught that incorporate mindfulness (attentional control training) and cognitive therapy. An initial, individual interview with Dr. McCracken is required.

Mindful Mondays

Open to those who have graduated from either the MBCT or DBT programs offered at Discovery. Offered the first and third Monday of each month, this donation-based practice group focuses on helping individuals continue their mindful skill development through regular meditation practice, mindful yoga and other relaxation techniques. To prevent relapse it is important to have a regular mindful practice.
