My outlook on life is that we are all on a journey. Some people move faster than others. Some need a helping hand along the way; but we can all arrive to where we are going, where we want to be…every single one of us. I am here to help motivate when you lack motivation. I am here to listen when you feel unheard. I am here to push when you feel weak, or pull when you don’t feel strong enough. I’m also here to sit with you when you aren’t ready or feel unable to make a decision. I am here at your pace.

Our life's work is helping clients achieve a better sense of self and happiness...more recently we've recognized that without good mental health providers, finding this balance in life can be more difficult and stressful. As a result, we tend toward an Integrative approach and help our clients transform into the people they want to be. We see each client as an individual with many parts to their identity. Utilizing a holistic and systemic approach we help clients reintegrate the parts of themselves to function better as individuals and within their systems. Our focus tends toward a systems based approach using behavior methods.

One of my greatest joys in life is helping others. It hurts my heart to see others in pain believing something is wrong with them. I want you to know you are not alone. Life is full of commitments, work, stress, transitions, and other people. It is often hard to take time for ourselves. I work with clients experiencing a broad range of issues from anxiety to spirituality and everything in between. I strive to treat each client as an individual, meeting every client where they are along their life journey.

For me, the ideal psychotherapy clients are people who have experienced life's challenges and are motivated to make changes. They have goals they wish to complete to improve their life. I enjoy working with clients who are ready to work with me while being fully engaged in the process. New techniques and behaviors can be scary and I am here to help my clients along the way.

If you’re in a moment of transition; experiencing anger, anxiety, grief, depression, then I want to connect with you. I see my role as to provide an accepting, warm and nurturing environment where you can comfortably express your feelings. I believe that no emotion is wrong but there are healthy and helpful ways to process them that we can access together. My therapeutic approach is direct and unique to each individual I work with. No two people are alike and your treatment shouldn't be either.

A Master's Level Psychotherapist specializing in BIPOC mental health and Student Success, who is deeply passionate about assisting individuals with obtaining their highest level of potential while navigating life's trials and tribulations. Recognizing human nature, we often become dormant by the events we've experienced from birth and forward and most times, we will develop behaviors that hinder us from progressing. Although, there is always room for improvement. Each day you are given a new chance to put your best foot forward, and I commend you for taking this small yet significant step to become a better version of yourself.

I have specialized training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and I approach therapy with a blend of DBT, radically open DBT, reality therapy, exposure therapy, mindfulness, emotion-focused therapy, and ancillary therapies that focus on living a valued life, prioritizing integrity, increasing psychological flexibility, and improving relationships.
I work with individuals across the lifespan, with a special focus on emerging adults. I work with many young adults with personality disorders, significant anxiety, and body image issues, and I work to reduce stigma and shame around these topics. I also have a special interest in working with individuals and families whose lives have been touched by addiction, especially family members and friends of those with substance use disorders. I take a directive and empathic approach, and together, we will identify and remove barriers so you can live a radically genuine life.

I utilize a variety of theoretical orientations and techniques such as, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, Narrative, Person-Centered, and Play Therapy.
In the ever-changing realm of today's society, it is understandable that life can be challenging. In fact, it can almost be expected! Life has its twists and turns, however, there are solutions and ways to cope, overcome, and grow into the person that you want to be. Will it take some work? Yes. Would it be worth it? I believe so! Counseling is what you put into it, and I think that if you're here, reading this bio, this is for you.

Reality Therapy

Is reality therapy evidence-based?

Reality therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapies. However, some research does indicate that reality therapy might be helpful for people with addiction, and may be effective in treating social anxiety in young people.

How long does reality therapy last?

Reality therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Reality therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of reality therapy long after treatment has ended.

Does reality therapy work?

Reality therapy can help a person manage concerns such as eating disorders, addiction, substance use, anxiety, phobias, and relationship difficulties. This type of therapy encourages a person to be accountable for their behaviors. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure. Reality therapy can be useful in one-on-one therapy or in group sessions. This method may be used with children, families, and adults.

What are the limitations of reality therapy?

This therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the therapist focuses on choices made by the individual in the present day. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over others. This format may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every client.
