Counseling is a journey and admitting that you need help is one of the hardest and most rewarding things you will do. This is an active journey that we will take together. Often we feel that activity and movement will help us to feel better, but underneath that unrest is a range of psychological processes such as depression, overwhelming stress, perfectionism, and anxiety. Choosing to ignore your issues tends to make life more difficult and places a strain on your relationships. Through our counseling relationship we will create goals, set the pace and find your path of healing.

My name is Angie Lewis and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with people ages 15-99 and specialize in working with people who don’t feel they are living their best life. I also work with co-occurring disorders. This involves the presence of both a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder. My counseling style is a good fit for teens and adults who struggle with overthinking about life and relationships. This can cause anxiety and depression or a sense of existing but not really living a life.

Are you struggling? Feeling stuck? Are you dealing with PTSD, trauma or have you experienced a painful childhood? Many times with those experiences we develop underlying symptoms like anxiety, depression, panic attacks, self-esteem issues & physical body ailments. I want you to know that life can be so much better. It is possible. I can help. I use a therapy approach that takes place in 2 to 6 sessions and is endorsed by recent neuroscience. You won't have to talk about the event endlessly or relive it. Together we will step you through healing. Clear your mind. Change your world.

Relationship issues, clarity, a deeper sense of self, self-exploration, anxiety, depression, life transitions, career confusion, marriage conflict, parents looking for support with their child's behavioral issues & concerns, and more. One of these sound like you? Whatever you're bringing in session, we will create a space to find change. Our lives are full of new beginnings, and change can be both exciting and definitely scary. It won't always be pretty, and that's to be expected. I will walk through the mud with you, and empower you to take back the control you may have been missing.

Reality Therapy

Is reality therapy evidence-based?

Reality therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapies. However, some research does indicate that reality therapy might be helpful for people with addiction, and may be effective in treating social anxiety in young people.

How long does reality therapy last?

Reality therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Reality therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of reality therapy long after treatment has ended.

Does reality therapy work?

Reality therapy can help a person manage concerns such as eating disorders, addiction, substance use, anxiety, phobias, and relationship difficulties. This type of therapy encourages a person to be accountable for their behaviors. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure. Reality therapy can be useful in one-on-one therapy or in group sessions. This method may be used with children, families, and adults.

What are the limitations of reality therapy?

This therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the therapist focuses on choices made by the individual in the present day. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over others. This format may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every client.
