I specialize in treating individuals with constellations of issues including emotional dysregulation, spiraling thoughts, feeling empty, fear of abandonment, incoherent identity, a history of intense/unstable relationships, and self-destructive behaviors i.e. disordered eating, compulsive sex, substance abuse. I help clients understand how they have been affected by experiences such as childhood neglect and abuse, emotional invalidation and manipulation, harshly critical or demanding parents, parental addiction, and family boundary violations.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 20 years experience. I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees from University of Michigan and Oakland University, respectively. I furthered my formal education with a post-Master's specialization in mental health. In my work as a psychotherapist, I encounter many people of various nationalities and socioeconomic standing. As I help them with their concerns, I repeatedly find the single most important conduit to change is the relationship we forge in therapy. In this relationship I am without judgment. I am respectful, understanding, and completely accepting.

Dr. Del Rio is a fully licensed psychotherapist. After receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology and social work from MSU, she attended ULM and received her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy. Post her doctorate, she obtained her Sex Therapy certificate from U of M. Her educational path has provided a unique recipe of both micro and macro perspectives and has informed her clinical interpretations. She specializes in anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, and relationships. Dawn utilizes evidence-based techniques such as Trauma-Informed, Solution-Focused, Dialectical Behavior, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies.
