I have found that focusing on the person as an individual, with their own needs, hopes and dreams is very helpful. I offer a caring and nonjudgemental space for people to talk about their struggles. I like to focus on what the person needs to make them feel whole and happy again.
Many people feel like other's judge them or look down upon them and I offer a safe place that is free of judgement. I focus on building on the person's strengths and helping them to accept themselves, even the parts they don't like about themselves. I offer flexibility and humor. Life can be stressful and humor helps with that.
