"All change is loss, and all loss must be mourned." This quote by Harry Levenson normalizes the feelings we all have when big changes occur, even good ones. I provide a safe, supportive environment for you to examine recent life events and their impact on you and your relationships. The therapy relationship is of primary importance to me. Together, we can formulate some coping strategies to address your current difficulties. I seek to help you make connections between the past and the present so that you can create the future you want.
I have a special interest in working with young adults, women, and new mothers with depression and anxiety. I have additional training in perinatal mental health issues, especially perinatal losses, including infertility, miscarriage, and termination for medical reasons. I also work with sexual assault and trauma survivors.
My goal is to create an environment in which you feel heard and respected so that you may work toward increasing self-awareness and making positive changes. I believe that therapy works when the client and therapist can form a trusting and collaborative relationship.

Rachel E. K. Freedman's Groups

Support After TFMR

The difficult, heartbreaking decision to end a wanted pregnancy for a medical reason often results in feelings that are not addressed by other loss support groups. This group will help decrease isolation by addressing feelings such as grief, guilt, and anger in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. Other topics include coping strategies, gender differences in grieving, and readiness to try again. Individuals and couples welcome. For more information please call me at (301) 529-6944.

Women and Alcohol Support and Discussion Group

This is a short-term group for women who would like to examine the role that alcohol plays in their lives and in their relationships. This is not an abstinence group but rather a group where members can be “sober curious” and find support from others who are also wondering if alcohol no longer serves them. As part of the group, we will read Annie Grace’s “This Naked Mind.” There will be some book discussion and some time for sharing in each session. An initial interview is required to join. Contact me for information about group fees.
