Rachel Dresner Jacobs
Are you burdened by worrisome thoughts, feelings or behaviors? Are you entangled in relationship patterns you wish you could change? Working with me will afford you the opportunity to share and examine problems in a safe and collaborative context. My approach is compassionate, sometimes humorous or gently challenging, and always genuine. We will take a closer look at how you came to be who you are, including the problematic ways you view yourself and relate to others. Through this process of exploration, you will find that change becomes possible and there is opportunity for new choices and new beginnings.
I embrace the diversity of my patients' cultural and religious backgrounds and sexual orientations. I tailor my work with adults and adolescents to meet their unique needs, stages in life and personalities. My focus with couples is to identify and address dysfunctional patterns and develop more effective communication and listening.
Over many years I have worked in hospitals, clinics, college counseling and private practice, including supervising clinicians in training. I have a particular expertise in problems with intimacy and self-esteem. My skills are continually enriched by advanced training in personality disorders and trauma, couples treatment, and psychoanalysis.
