"Specializing in work with men..." At this time, I specialize in helping adult men with depression, anxiety, and histories of trauma, especially survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault. This is where the bulk of my experience has been during the last 25 years and I am comfortable and confident I can help. I also work with adult women too, but encourage any men looking for a therapist to contact me. Clients contact me to help with relationship problems, depression, sleep/concentration difficulty, anger problems, and trauma. My clients quickly become unstuck and make positive life changes.

I find my clients, especially the male clients are able to relate easily to me and I am quickly able to begin the helping process. So much of what helps is in the therapy relationship and once established there are many opportunities for growth and healing. My special knowledge in the science of how trauma impacts memory is also very helpful.

I'm on the faculty of the Chicago Center for Family Health and I was nominated for a teaching award by my graduate social work students. I've been married 37 years and played team sports through my first year in college. My office is comfortable, with ample parking, and near the Belmont train stop.

Psychotherapy for Men's Groups

Seminar: How Trauma Impacts Memory

Many of us, even those in the healing arts, are confused about the profound way trauma impacts memory. Using Dr. Ford's accusations of sexual assault as a starting point, this workshop will provide an overview of the research and a model for determining the authenticity of trauma memories. Key concepts such as central and peripheral details, implicit/explicit memory, state and context dependent memory will be discussed. Ample time will be allowed for questions and discussion. Format will be power-point presentation with video-vignettes, live demonsration and group participation.
