I offer psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to individuals and groups in a positive, safe, non-judgmental environment. My goal is to provide the right balance of support and challenge to help each client work, play and love to the fullest of his or her potential. I frequently work with clients who have experienced early wounding as well as those having difficulty with transitions in relationships, aging, loss, or end of life. I enjoy work with artists seeking to free creative energy. I see each client as unique and our work together as an exploration of what is possible, desirable and achievable.

Therapy helps people to change their lives, most fundamentally through a connection to their therapist. As a therapist, I listen closely during sessions, paying careful attention to how overlapping social oppressions, collective histories and past life experiences emerge in the present. I attend to a patient's need to speak their mind, to be heard and understood. At the same time, I remain alive to what may be unsayable, and why. Throughout the course of therapy, we work to make sense of the dynamics that shape lived experience and to make difficult thoughts and feelings both sayable and survivable.

Therapy for adults: Therapy is about looking at problems to turn them around. We can work together to find ways that work better.

People come to therapy for many reasons. Whatever the reason may be, I have found that there is always a feeling something is not working out. You may be stuck feeling, thinking or behaving in certain ways that aren’t helping you live your best life. While medications can be helpful, they are not the full picture. The best thing you can do for yourself is to find someone with whom you can clarify your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

My first goal when working with a client is to create a space of absolute safety, a space where people feel at ease to share the fullness of their suffering, to share their hopes and their dreams. I use a whole-person approach and learn not just about a person’s pain but also about their strengths and their vision for a better future. Together, my clients and I create a healing field that allows their deepest knowledge to flower. We transform confusion into clarity and habitual patterns into fresh action arising out of wisdom.

I have been practicing as a Psychotherapist, Social Worker and Child and Family Advocate for many years. I have post graduate training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Modern Psychodynamic Psychoanalytic Therapy. I have extensive experience working with children and adults coping with depression and anxiety, grief, loss, life transitions, chronic illness and relationship issues. My focus is to assist individuals receiving services access self-knowledge and improve their functioning and quality of life.

The people I work with are interested in making real changes in their lives and relationships and are willing to remain committed to the work even when it is most difficult. Typically what brings people in is an awareness that the same issues present over and over again, even if there are not yet words to describe exactly what is happening. Together and collaboratively, we work to make meaning of your experiences and relationships and the thoughts and feelings that accompany them. When you can see your struggles and patterns clearly, change becomes possible.

Here are two things I think are important about therapy: 1) People can find relief for symptoms like worry,loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, and craving; and 2) People can build psychological strength. Psychological strength allows people to have more fulfilling relationships, use their capacities more effectively, and bring more flexibility and creativity to problems in living.

According to the great poet Rainer Maria Rilke, "The only journey is the journey within." We all need help sometimes and we all have room to grow. I believe that everyone can benefit from therapy, whether it is to address a severe mental illness, to receive support through a rough season of life, or to gain greater self-knowledge and unleash your full potential. My professional interests include psychoses, dissociative disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, sexual abuse, and weight loss.

I see my job as a therapist as providing a particular kind of space. A space that helps people to feel comfortable, and one that helps people to talk. It is through this talking that healing and transformation become possible. I believe that human beings have a natural tendency to move towards growth, maturity, and happiness. As a psychoanalyst, I believe that our most fundamental struggles are related to difficulties in our relationships. That's why I think collaboration in therapy is important. I work with clients to help them use their curiosity, talents, and strengths to resolve confusion and achieve understanding and relief. My style is non-judging and genuine so clients feel comfortable talking about parts of their life that are stressful, frustrating, and even painful. In working together, I hope to help clients achieve a better sense of meaning in their lives and satisfaction in their relationships, so that anxiety, depression, shame and guilt ease away.

As a therapist there has to be a fundamental understanding that your clients set their own personal goals. Clients must commit to the work for true healing and freedom. Therapy is an enriching process and can be challenging at times. The challenge that I see most in clients is that change requires acceptance and this process is hard. As a therapist, I can assist in guiding my clients through these tough times, to see an enriching ending.

Though it may be a bit cliche, "Help me help you..." has been a powerful message in my nearly 17 years' experience in a variety of multidisciplinary settings (e.g., inpatient, hospital, residential, outpatient/community, school, college, forensic). I believe in the power of resilience and self-empowerment; however, for those times when that isn't working or a little more is needed, I am here for support. You are the expert on you; I am here to get you back to where want to be or help move you to where you want to go.

I am a licensed psychologist with a specialty in forensic psychology. I conduct ethical training for mental health professionals throughout the United States. I have published extensively in the overlap area of psychology and law.

As a therapist, my greatest passion is helping people find new ways to experience emotions and develop resiliency. I believe that we heal and grow most effectively in connection with others and that our emotions, even painful ones, provide us with important information about our needs.
