The foundation of my approach is grounded in the relational and psychodynamic traditions.
If you are feeling empty or unlovable, finding it difficult to express your feelings or have satisfying relationships, or you are grieving a loss, finding yourself without hope, or feeling anxious, therapy is a way to start understanding these things, seeing yourself in new ways, and beginning a process of change. I primarily work with adults in weekly individual therapy, and my approach is integrative and flexible. This allows us to tailor therapy to best suit your personality and goals.

My work is often a mixture of psychodynamic, attachment, and systems theories.
I work with men who have difficulty identifying with their feelings, struggle with depression and anxiety, or have issues with their work/life balance. My clients typically struggle with expressing themselves in their relationships. They feel lonely, hopeless, and isolated. They are overworked and under loved. In our work together, I will give you support, feedback and insight, and constructively challenge patterns and beliefs that may be getting in your way. Together we can strive to understand the roots of the struggles you are experiencing in your life.

Do you feel stuck but also don’t quite know where to start to make positive changes in your life? Most of us have been there. In this increasingly complex world it can be difficult to create moments of peace and contentment, and listen to our inner voice. We are constantly bombarded by different types of stimuli. Despite so many ways to communicate with people, sometimes it feels like no one is really listening to what we have to say. How are we supposed to foster joy, gratitude, have satisfying and meaningful relationships like this? If you have had these thoughts a little too often, maybe it is time for us to work together.

Generally, we react to suffering and what we struggle with by trying to fix perceived problems, our selves, or others. It is natural to not want to suffer, but often our very resistance to suffering, or the habits we develop to avoid discomfort and pain work against us. I provide an integrative, soul-nourishing approach to therapy rooted in embodied depth psychology, health coaching, and mindfulness practices that encourages fully accepting ourselves: our bodies, feelings, and thoughts as they are.

Overall, I favor a psychodynamic approach because I find it to be a holistic way to engage an individual's identity resources, underlying conflicts, and behavior patterns.
I believe every patient has the right to be treated gently and respectfully, even bolstered on their mental health journey. Each session is dynamic and unique, allowing me to be fully present to listen and engage. While I am always equipped to offer tools that can help alleviate acute symptoms of anxiety or depression, I find that the real magic happens as the therapeutic alliance grows over time. As I get to know you and the context of your life struggles, it becomes increasingly powerful to explore unconscious wishes and conflicts. It's quite common for my patients to experience increased insight, acceptance, and flexibility.

Every person is the expert of their own journey. Throughout your life you have developed methods to cope with your experiences, both good and bad, that have helped you get to where you are. As you grow and change, some ways of coping become toxic, impeding, rather than supporting positive change. Through our therapeutic relationship I can help you identify those patterns of thought and behavior that are causing distress and help you develop the tools to replace them with the skills and understanding you need to move forward. I use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)/Psychodynamic approach to help clients make positive changes.

As a psychodynamic therapist, I am concerned with how you've experienced relationships throughout your life and in utilizing our relationship as therapist and client for your healing and growth.
At some point, many of us can be overwhelmed by feelings anxiety, anger, disconnectedness -- or maybe we simply feel stuck in life. These painful places are not just emotional experiences; they can also be seen as spiritual. They carry the potential to transform us. The key to unlocking such transformation is to listen deeply enough to discover the meaning inherent in our most difficult experiences. I can help you to do that; it is the work I love to do. My goal is to help you discover greater freedom by connecting with your own deepest wisdom.

I use relational psychodynamic methods, with insights from CBT and others.
Now more than ever, in the COVID-19 crisis, therapy can help you to cope with heightened anxiety, depression, loneliness, and lack of purpose. With online video conferencing, I can provide regular therapy without you coming into the office. Therapy provides a safe place to ask the questions that scare us, to find connection and healing, to feel good and be authentic, and take charge of our lives. I support clients' efforts to gain insight into the sources of their challenges and pain, find connection, make positive changes in relationships, identify strengths and resources, cope with personal history, and take charge of their life.

By integrating western (psychodynamic and narrative approaches) and eastern (mindfulness-based, breathing exercises, self-reflection, etc.
In an overly connected world, we sometimes just need to be heard. Meeting with someone who listens deeply can uncover the answers that live within our hearts. The therapeutic process allows you to navigate life's transitions (identity, relationships, career, relocation, retirement, grief and loss) with grace. In time, you can bring your whole self to all of your relationships (intimate, family, friends, colleagues). You can also pursue purposeful action in your education, career, community and spiritual life. Living is the process of enduring change. Building resilience allows us to be enriched by that ongoing change process.

Some therapeutic schools utilized include: family systems, attachment theory, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, empowerment, trauma-informed, and mindfulness: intervention plans match client concerns.
Why go to therapy? You might seek therapy when experiencing emotional pain or stress, maybe even confusion about a situation or about yourself. Life throws curve balls. Bad things happen. Sometimes what is happening around you can be confusing. One goal of therapy is to relieve anxiety, and every session should provide greater understanding of the issue and bring some relief—whatever the issue may be. You might feel alone and maybe overwhelmed about personal concerns—that’s normal. Therapy offers a place of understanding and acceptance, a place for problem solving, and for any feelings and thoughts: a place where you can feel safe.

I draw from several methods, including psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive approaches, to find the tools that fit your needs.
We all yearn for those moments when something suddenly becomes clear: a relationship that you are ready to embrace or one that you are ready to end, a new path you want to pursue or an old pattern you need to let go. I see therapy as a way of guiding you towards those moments of clarity and authenticity while also, just as importantly, providing the groundwork for the ongoing, day-to-day, process of developing personal satisfaction and growth. My role is to help support you in that journey, whether you are facing anxiety, depression, or life changes.

My training includes Psychodynamic, Solution Focused, Cognitive, Community/Trauma Resiliency and Clinical Supervision.
Life can be challenging. Whether it's loss, change, death of a loved one or uncertainty of life's direction, we all hit roadblocks and obstacles. During those times it's important to be heard. I am here to listen and also inspire hope. I believe in my clients' abilities to change and I nurture their inner strength until they can believe in themselves. Change is powerful. It can be transformational, scary and exciting. When I worked in Palliative Care with patients who were at the end stage of their lives, I was witness to the power of being present. In the quiet presence of acceptance, a deep healing can occur.

I favor holistic, humanistic and psychodynamic approaches with mindfulness and creative/art therapies.
We possess the ability to create a fulfilling, joyful existence, but trauma, emotional wounding, loss, life transitions, conditions while growing up, plus stressors of day-to-day living, can drown out our inner wisdom or intuition. I enjoy collaborating with the unique qualities each individual brings to therapy and provide an environment that is safe and conducive to deep reflection, validation and positive change. I believe that with the right type of support, one can transform painful experiences and life circumstances into opportunities for healing and growth.

My therapeutic framework is intersectional, feminist, relational & psychodynamic.
Our inner worlds are complex and influenced by a myriad of ever changing experiences, relationships and circumstances. Some of these factors highjack our security in who we are, the relationships we're in and limit our ability to authentically participate in our own lives. Therapy is an invitation into your own story in a way that deepens your imagination for who you are in the world. Developing a more expansive understanding of yourself and your story enables a unique brand of resiliency, flexibility and courage to empower you into a more creative life.

I approach counseling through relational, psychodynamic, and anti-oppressive lenses, engaging many pathways toward healing, including evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, and ACT.
I believe that we learn, struggle, fail, grieve, endure, and thrive best in the context of relationship. But even with the hope of connection, accepting the invitation of relationship may feel risky. Being seen and honored—not in spite of the unseen parts of you, but because of them—can feel upending, even dangerous. In a culture that by and large fosters virtual engagement over physical presence, this therapeutic work invites us back into our bodies, and back into genuine connection with ourselves and others. When we are aware of our emotional and bodily experience, we then gain the ability to regulate that experience.

My perspective is largely psychodynamic, meaning we approach your current concerns with an understanding that this moment is also informed by a lifetime of relationships and experiences.
Everyone gets stuck or overwhelmed and sometimes we need additional support. Therapy creates opportunities for you to explore your thoughts and feelings so you can better understand and change what's getting in the way of you living as your fullest self. I work with adults and expectant and new parents to address anxiety, depression, self criticism, anger, loneliness, or feeling numb or shut down. Our work together strengthens your sense of self, your relationships, and your capacity to best respond to life's inevitable changes and challenges.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Psychodynamic therapy in Magnolia, Seattle, also known as insight-oriented therapy, evolved from Freudian psychoanalysis. Like adherents of psychoanalysis, psychodynamic therapists believe that bringing the unconscious into conscious awareness promotes insight and resolves conflict. But psychodynamic therapy is briefer and less intensive than psychoanalysis and also focuses on the relationship between the therapist and the client, as a way to learn about how the client relates to everyone in their life.
