I love working with the seekers - the ones who are feeling stuck in relationships or patterns, who have as deep a desire to understand as to move beyond. I am here for the psychologically curious - those who want insight and meaning while they strive to create a life that isn't painful all the time. Your pain needs to be tended to, but your capacity for joy and fun and play must simultaneously be cultivated. Life is complicated and problematic. Our power lies in our creative and flexible responses to our setbacks.

As a licensed mental health counselor, I work to provide a safe place for my clients to explore their stories, learn about themselves, and progress towards their goals. When therapy concludes, my hope is my clients have a stronger sense of self, more authentic relationships, and a greater understanding of their life's potential and impact. In order to do this, I utilize psychodynamic and existential psychotherapies in collaboration with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

I emphasize an ecological and strengths-based approach using psychodynamic and evidenced-based interventions.
Every life is a series of transitions, some of which can feel impossible to navigate. People and families can often feel ‘stuck’ in their current struggles and unable to overcome the challenges and changes they are experiencing. Whether the tough moments are navigating issues in daily life or processing landmark events such as pregnancy or parenthood, the need for support is valid and you don’t have to push through alone. Therapy helps you develop the tools and knowledge needed to bring out your unique strengths and abilities. No matter what age or life stage you are in, healing is possible.

I use a combination of mindfulness, CBT and psychodynamic therapy modalities to help you understand who you are and heal.
We all face painful and challenging seasons and situations in life, and I am here to help you through those times. I work with people who are hurting and want peace; who want to grow; or have realized there are places in their life they need to work through. I also work with those who want to bring their Christian faith into the counseling process. I strive to offer biblically sound, evidence based therapy. I see both individuals and couples who are dealing with betrayal and loss and sexual shame.

My training is in modern evidence-based therapies and traditional approaches such as Psychodynamic therapy, providing me with a wide range of tools to help you.
As your therapist, I will explore your concerns and assist you in uncovering deeper issues that might be hindering or influencing your relationships and your worldview. “Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation.” -- Dr. Viktor Frankl, Holocaust survivor, existentialist, and founder of Logotherapy (concept based on the premise that the primary motivational force of an individual is to find a meaning in life).

I practice relationally focused psychodynamic therapy.
You may be struggling to see and believe in the goodness of yourself and others. You desire a change in these relationships. I support my clients in finding a compassionate and just relationship with themselves and the world around them by exploring implicit and explicit material in their historical and current narratives. I engage and help clients in an emotionally-focused and somatically-present space. We take our biggest steps to healing when we feel cared for, loved, and heard.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I believe growth, healing, and restoration are made possible in safe and supportive relationships, which is why my goal in the therapy room is to always cultivate a space that is warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative. I primarily work from a psychodynamic and narrative therapy framework. This means that in therapy together we will deconstruct the story behind your story, identify and understand reoccurring patterns, and unpack the why’s. We all carry wounded parts and it is my aim to partner with you as you journey toward healing.

As a theoretical orientation, Amy utilizes an integrative, person-centered, & psychodynamic approach to create a framework of attachment theory, family systems, expressive-arts, creative parenting, mindfulness (meditation, visualization, breathwork, & intuition), parts work, psychoeducation, & emotion regulation tools from DBT (self-soothing & co-soothing).
With compassion, an open heart, & inclusivity, Amy helps people expand their potential by creating a personal roadmap to their emotional health & wellbeing. Listening, acknowledgement, & building trust are key ingredients to her approach. Amy tunes into the client in each moment of every session to understand what they are experiencing to help them get their needs met. Attachment wounding can be a part of many people's childhoods and those experiences often present now. Many times, reparenting occurs through the therapy process and results in a corrective experience, bringing peacefulness & healing...to feel whole again.

I apply various models as required: Family Systems, Peacemaking, DBT, Psychodynamic, Transpersonal, EMDR and Experiential Modalities as sand tray, nature therapies, Yoga, Reiki, and Jin Shin Jyutsu.
Have you experienced a loss that is impacting your quality of life? My focus is to support individuals who are experiencing chronic grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, identity confusion, or developmental adjustments as a result of traumatic events, environmental changes or life transitions. As you engage in a therapeutic trusting relationship, your core strengths, values, insights and resilence will emerge to gain balance. Humans are in a continual process of transformation. When developmental process is interrupted by an event, loss or stuck in the social structures we live in, an opportunity for new growth becomes possible.

I operate from a psychodynamic therapy approach.
St Augustine once wrote “People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars; and they pass by themselves without wondering.” Life asks a lot today. Our children need help with homework. Our jobs need us to produce more, our parents need us as age diminishes their abilities. After everything, one is left to wonder not at themselves, but at where all the time went?

I utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques, but gravitate mostly to psychodynamic, CBT, Attachment focused, & Rogerian, to help my clients reach their goals.
Is anxiety holding you back in your personal or professional life? Are you constantly overwhelmed with a sense of urgency while feeling paralyzed at the same time? Maybe you feel like you’ve lost all sense of control over your relationships and your life, and that feels scary. What’s scarier, though, is continuing to feel stuck, anxious, and unhappy. You deserve to feel good and be happy, and I believe that therapy can help make that happen. Through targeted interventions and introspection, I help high achieving millennial professionals manage anxiety, voice their needs, realign with their purpose, and nurture healthy relationships.

I generally work from a psychodynamic, attachment-based perspective, but often incorporate other approaches in order to best meet the needs of my clients.
I often hear clients use the word "stuck" to describe themselves: stuck in a pattern, stuck in a rut, stuck in a lonely place. Together, we will explore and unpack the feelings, beliefs, and behaviors that are holding you back. Your relationships, life circumstances, or family history might be weighing on you. Perhaps a past trauma has left you depressed, angry, or unable to connect with others. Therapy can help you better understand yourself and the choices you make in your life, and provide support as you navigate life's ups and downs.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
