We all have times in our lives where we hit a rough patch and need someone to talk to... a neutral figure who can provide you with insight and ideas to help you find your own solutions to effectively cope/resolve the challenges in your life. I can be that person for you. We can also have times in our lives where we may have experienced a traumatic event and perhaps, we swept our feelings under the rug for many years even, but now, we need to work through it because those unresolved thoughts and feelings are starting to have a negative impact in our lives and in our significant relationships. I can help you do just that!

There is a beauty that lies within each one of us. We all have gifts to give to this world and to one another. The ability to see various perspectives in a given situation is an essential element in understanding the value that each of us has in this amazing life.

My primary counseling orientation is psychodynamic, although I am also trained in narrative, solution-focused, and cognative-behavioral methods of counseling.
I would describe my practice as helping people work through life issues in ways that promote relational, emotional and spiritual growth. My clinical areas of interest include spirituality, depression, anxiety, and relationship problems. I also specialize in working with men's issues. I apply a Christian/faith-based approach to counseling and am trained in both theology and professional counseling. I am an ordained minister and pastoral counselor. I don't impose my beliefs on clients, and respect all faith/spiritual traditions as valuable resources for healing. Areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, childhood abuse, personality disorders, faith crisis, marriage, family, adolescent, and relationship issues.

I have training in Psychodynamic treatment modalities, CBT, EMDR, DBT, AEDP, IFS, mindfulness-based treatment approaches and body-based treatment approaches , Buddhist psychology, meditation and eastern philosophies.
I view treatment as a safe space where healing can occur through the process of unpeeling multiple layers of mental and emotional patterns (conscious and unconscious), leading individuals to discover their strengths, true potential and authentic self. In this process, one can feel empowered and inspired to integrate all parts of self, even those hidden from the conscious mind. This delicate work is only possible when trust and alliance are established between therapist and client. The principles guiding this work are unconditional acceptance, compassion and non-judgment.

I navigate from the belief that we all want to see and be seen well and to engage in complete freedom to be all that we are. As a therapist, my hope is that you will find that here. I practice psychotherapy through various modalities including psychodynamic, attachment-based, somatic attention, and trauma-informed theories. However, my foundational approach is Relational. I believe that if our wounds begin in relationship, they can only find healing within a restorative one.

I am passionate about helping individuals and couples thrive in reaching their goals by building on their strengths and identifying new and creative ways to adjust to difficult situations and circumstances. "People come for therapy not to change their past but their future." a quote by Milton Erickson inspires us to view therapy as a way to manage change.

I believe in the importance of helping individuals seeking to show up authentically in all parts of their lives. Through compassion, non-judgmental guidance, and by challenging patterns where you find yourself stuck, we are able to promote personal growth and change. I work with individuals and couples to better understand their boundaries and how to strengthen their ability to communicate them. My approach to counseling is informed by CBT, ACT, Psychodynamic, and EMDR. EMDR therapy is an effective therapy method that supports healing from trauma, ingrained negative core beliefs, and other distressing life experiences.

If you're someone with a unique identity who is navigating anxiety and life transitions, and wanting to work with a therapist who understands your story - I'm here to help! Through our work together, I can help you redefine who you are - not just who other people want you to be. You might be a good fit to work with me: if you are exploring your identity as a 2SLGBTQ+ person. If you are a third culture kid or part of an immigrant family. If you're a perfectionist or people-pleaser. If you're reclaiming your sense of self. This is the place for you!

I integrate experiential and psychodynamic therapy, as well as CPT and EMDR.
Could we be upfront? You're here because you want to feel differently. Maybe you're unsure about the problem. Or you know what it is but can't seem to fix it. Anxiety, traumatic experiences, relationship issues...it could be the same old pattern, or something out of the blue. You're in a great place to start. There is a pattern to the pain, and we can look at it together. I take a very direct and engaged position in helping you explore yourself, your strengths and your challenges. Through this process you will become more self confident. We'll create a collaborative relationship in which you can be open and honest without judgment.

Therapy can be a deeply transformative experience where you may discover more of who you are and ultimately find a greater sense of peace. As a relational psychodynamic therapist, my first goal is to create an environment where you feel understood and supported in exploring your story. I have experience working with adolescents, adults, families, and perinatal patients. I also am an especially good fit for those who struggle with feelings of guilt and shame; those who consider themselves highly sensitive; and those who feel like outsiders.

My approaches include cognitive, behavioral, psychodynamic, existential, Jungian, strategic, archetypal, and narrative.
Depression, anxiety, relationship issues, loss and grief, mid-life crisis, disappointment and stagnation are only a few of the reasons an individual seeks counseling. My therapeutic approach in working with an individual is to explore the meaning of life-altering events and to bring understanding and enduring ways to cope. I focus on strengths in the individual and work in a warm, non-judgmental way that feels safe. My role is to provide empathic listening and support while acting as a guide in removing the barriers and patterns that have developed over a lifetime.

I work from a relational psychodynamic perspective, which is collaborative in nature and focuses on understanding each person's unique history, identifying problematic patterns of living, and helping people experience new ways of being.
I view therapy as a deeply transformative experience where people may discover more of who they are and ultimately find a greater sense of peace. Our suffering is often a result of a complex set of circumstances involving our sense of self, our relationships with others, our thoughts, and our feelings. I believe each person deserves to be understood in all of his or her complexity. It is only within an open and accepting relationship with another that we can begin to experience ourselves and our relationships in a new and healing way.

EMDR, Mindfulness-CBT and Psychodynamic therapy are a my mix of approaches that I specialize in to assist my folks in creating a greater understanding of themselves, past and present, and use body centered (somatic) approaches to assist in processing any underlying trauma that may be present or contributing to current disturbance.
First, I commend you for taking the next step in your self-care journey. Often times people seek support to find clarity about a situation(s) in their life, to make sense of the way they are feeling, to find relief from symptoms of anxiety and depression, and to find a safe and supportive environment to be seen and heard, and ultimately hearing their true self. If you have been in therapy before and are looking to maximize the benefits of your work, EMDR is a very helpful modality that provide quick results. Please inquire about EMDR if you are interested.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
