I am trained in EMDR and utilize various modalities including person-centered, psychodynamic, and existential.
I believe the more we show up as our authentic selves, the more fulfilling our lives will be. Sometimes our past mistakes, trauma, others' expectations, or fear of the unknown can get in the way of that. As your therapist, I will meet you where you are; anything you are feeling is welcome. Together, we will explore who you are and identify patterns and belief systems that are no longer helpful. I strive to provide a genuine and welcoming space where you feel seen, understood, and empowered.

The evidenced based therapy approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Motivational Interviewing and Brief Psychodynamic Therapy.
Life can be hard... you don't have to go through it alone. As a person who has gone through their own journey of emotional growth and healing, I know how overwhelming the first step can be in reaching out for help. If you are tired of struggling and you feel like you are barely surviving, you don't have to stay where you are. There IS hope and you CAN feel better. You've already taken a courageous step in a positive direction by seeking out a therapist.

I practice a variety of interventions: psychodynamic relational work, gestalt therapy, cognitive-behavioral tools, EMDR, and more.
I'm so glad you're considering counseling. It means that, at a deep level, you know you deserve better and are capable of more. You may be troubled by persistent negative thoughts and feelings, dissatisfied with certain important relationships, or frustrated that the choices you've made are no longer working for you. Either way, I applaud you for taking this step. Through psychotherapy, we will explore one of the most important subjects in your life - yourself. And we will journey together towards a future that reflects your deepest values and goals.

My clinical interests include anxiety, depression, trauma, dissociation, addiction, personality disorders (particularly borderline and narcissistic), and difficulties relating to others.

I work primarily with adults and adolescents who are having trouble negotiating difficult life stages. I treat both short-term, acute problems and more pervasive, long-standing problems. My years of training, first in CBT, and later in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches allow me to use both in my practice. The client and I decide on treatment approaches based on his or her strengths and preferences.

No two people are alike, so I draw from over 25 years of training and experience as a Clinical Psychologist to help my client's address the problems that brought them in to see me and have a better life. Typically, I rely upon cognitive, psychodynamic, interpersonal, family systems or behavioral approaches, but I utilize whatever works to help my clients get the core of their problems and resolve them. I work with adults, couples, young adults and adolescents, and I accept many insurance plans and private pay. When you're ready to change and have your life work call me.

I draw from my training in psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and person-centered therapy, amongst others.
Seeking out help can be hard. But it’s a brave first step in working with issues that hold us back on our journey of healing and self discovery. I work with clients that find themselves feeling stuck or dissatisfied in various aspects of their lives, be it relationships, family dynamics, or careers. I also specialize in adolescents (and their families) who struggle with self worth and discovering who they are in the midst of a challenging stage of life. I believe in the importance of understanding how our past experiences and family dynamics shape who we are as unique individuals.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
