I’m excited to meet you and learn about how your mind works. I typically provide longer-term treatment aimed at more extensive personality change, and my therapeutic approach is fundamentally psychodynamic and emotionally focused. In emotionally focused and psychodynamic therapies, the instrument of healing is the psychotherapy relationship itself, and the insight you gather from our shared experience will reverberate throughout all facets of your life.

I utilize a multi model approach which include CBT for early stages of treatment and symptom reduction, Schema therapy, to identify patterns of behaviors and psychodynamic therapy to identify underlying defenses.
The therapeutic process is unique to the client. For some it involves deep reflection and questioning old idea's, and for others a problem solving collaboration. For me it is the excitement of the journey you will embark on, and the endless possibilities for growth. Transparency is paramount, and key to the process for both client and therapist. Work is progressive and tailored to the individual. As issues emerge, treatment plans are re-assessed and revised to meet client needs. For trauma I am trained in Trauma focused CBT and Functional Family Systems, for addiction CBT and 12-step and for couples family systems therapy.

Using Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral, Person Centered and Psychodynamic theories, I can help you plan a course to achieve your goals.
Feeling lost and overwhelmed by all the decisions and choices you are faced with daily can be stressful and exhausting, and stress can be magnified by the constant changes everyone experiences. These changes in relationships, your roles in school or workplace, family situations, and demands from others can all make you feel anxious, depressed...helpless. The isolation and loneliness we experienced during the pandemic did not evaporate when the crisis was contained, and now we are forced to cope new stressors. Depression, anxiety, increased substance use have been noted. But help & healing are available .

I approach my work with a relational understanding based on person centered, systemic, and psychodynamic perspectives.
Relationships are complex. We frequently identify ourselves through our relationship with others. We are parents, children, couples, coworkers, bosses, employees, friends. These relationships continually impact our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions. Perhaps your relationships involve stress, anxiety, sadness, grief, confusion, and unhealthy dynamics.

My approach to therapy is eclectic but largely incorporates elements of brief psychodynamic, attachment, and systems theories.
The basis of my practice is rooted in the promise of hope. I believe that we are all capable of moving toward healthier versions of ourselves that can result in more functional emotional responses, deeper, more satisfying relationships, and redeemed living. My goal is to be a helper that provides a safe place to begin to move toward positive change. I partner well with individuals and couples who are tired of dealing with dysfunction and are motivated to work toward being a better version of themselves.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
