I utilize Somatic, Emotion-Focused, Psychodynamic, and Humanistic approaches in therapy.
Starting the healing journey is such a courageous and loving gift to give yourself and I am so glad you are here. Creating safety is the most important part of this process, so I will meet you wherever you are on your journey. When our needs/emotions are not nurtured in childhood, we often learn to disconnect from our body, forcing us into a state of survival. If you ever feel disconnected, confused about your identity, unsafe in your body, struggle to focus, distrusting in relationships, confused about childhood experiences, loss of bodily autonomy, or unable to feel your full range of emotions, you are not alone and are safe here.

I integrate intuitive, trauma-informed, somatic, emotion-focused, & psychodynamic approaches as I assist you in returning home to yourself.
Past experiences and traumas (including those in childhood) can create an internal fragmentation of self - disconnecting us from our inherent wholeness and worth, and causing us to view and experience life as something to be survived rather than lived. This can manifest in emotional suppression, dissociation, feelings of worthlessness, relationship difficulties with self and others, lack of bodily autonomy and safety, repressed grief, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, etc. Healing through these experiences will require you to make the courageous journey back home to your heart and soul - back to the very essence of You.

I enjoy working with adults who suffer from grief and loss, trauma, and sport-related performance issues. To help overcome these challenges, I take a collaborative approach that focuses on understanding the problem to determine how best to resolve it. I believe that humans have a large capacity to be autonomous and self-directed. Thus, as a psychologist I help my clients realize this potential, promoting adaptive ways of coping, and work myself out of job as a result. Theoretically, I work from interpersonal, psychodynamic, and existential perspectives, and believe that the foundation of effective counseling stems from the therapeutic relationship.

You are finally ready to start working on healing inner wounds. Let's start by getting curious about what your nervous system needs to feel safe and ready, using curiosity and compassion. This can create an instant softening of symptoms related to anxiety, PTSD or C-PTSD, and grief/loss. For couples in distress, you CAN engage with more thoughtful reflection and heal relational wounds in order to transform your relationship; And if there is ambivalence about your future together as a couple, I can help you choose a path forward using short-term Discernment Counseling.

You struggle with life’s stress. Striving to meet expectations is making you anxious, which can affect your health and even your motivation. As anxiety increases, you find yourself shutting down inside, creating walls in your relationships, managing through unhealthy activities, avoiding stressful situations or people.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
