My skill set includes eclectic talk therapy (using primarily cognitive, transpersonal and psychodynamic methods), hypnotherapy (including age regression), thought field therapy, spiritual (not religious) counseling, philosophical therapy, dreamwork, various energy healing modalities, and a highly developed intuition.
Growth is thwarted by fear--both the known fears we can name and the hidden fears that manifest in self-defeating behaviors. As your counselor, I'll be your ally--giving you as much insight and encouragement as needed to vanquish fears and enhance personal growth. Drawing on 20 years of study and experience in the ancient, spiritual Wisdom Teachings as well as a formal education in psychology and philosophy, I am committed to helping you clear the path to a satisfying, meaningful life.

I use a combination of therapies to help including CBT and Psychodynamic.
I know it’s often really hard to choose a therapist. To make it easier, I would be glad to speak with you on the phone for 15 minutes to discuss whether we might be a good match. I am only doing Telehealth including video so I can see anyone who lives in Illinois I work mainly with adults and see individuals and couples. If you are depressed or anxious, I would be glad to help you feel better. I also help people with eating disorders and Body Dysmorphic Disorder. I am on many EAP Panels and I take most insurance. Give me a call or email me so we can talk and set up an appointment.

I often utilize Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness based approaches.
For the past 12 years, I have had the honor of meeting with clients of all ages and am amazed by human resilience. Often, emotions can be complex to navigate and difficult to manage alone. My goal is to support you through difficult moments, help you build awareness and understanding for your behaviors and feelings, gain clarity in confusing times, better understand your relationships, and ultimately help you see life in clearer terms.

Having lived in different countries (China, England, and the U.S.) and the life of both a “majority” and a “minority”, from marketing to mental health, I am able to connect with people in their diverse life experiences. I see therapy as a relationship between two people committed to face the deeper truths of our lives. I am here to understand your unique personal story, and support you in sorting out complex emotional and relational concerns. The goal is for you to set yourself free from limiting barriers, build emotional resilience, and develop more fulfilling relationships with others.

I draw on various therapeutic styles including narrative and psychodynamic therapies, attachment based focuses, and trauma-informed practices.
I work with individuals and couples wanting to work on anxiety, depression, family and relationship issues, conflict and communication, relational and religious trauma, grief, and low self-esteem. But what this really looks and feels like "people-pleasing" tendencies, shame, anger, fear of the unknown, and difficulty opening up with yourself and others. I am passionate about helping clients navigate these difficulties and helping them become unstuck.

Psychodynamic theory focuses on "family of origin" issues, and cognitive-behavioral theory examines ones "core beliefs.
I seek to set my clients at ease in a comfortable setting so that they can tell their story in a nurturing and non-judgmental setting. Only then can we begin to focus on what they want to accomplish: setting realistic goals for both personal and professional success. I believe that this is done best with a sense of humor, as laughter is the best medicine! I show my clients that therapy can be as fun and as productive as they want it to be, where your thoughts and feelings are taken very seriously, and where what you put in is what you get out!

I take an empathic, compassionate approach to therapy by utilizing psychodynamic theory and person-centered counseling.
Together we will identify your strengths and build up the parts of yourself you see as weak. The parts of ourselves we see as weak and vulnerable are often our greatest strengths. I am passionate about working with adolescents and the LGBTQIA+ community. As a non-binary, queer identified person, I am committed to helping my clients navigate the stressors that uniquely effect gender and sexual minorities.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
