I believe in a collaborative healing approach. Together, we identify areas of concern and develop strategies for change. I also believe in exploring the underlying causes of our struggles. My approach is varied, taking and blending techniques from a variety of sources, rather than relying on a single system of intervention. I strive to create a safe environment for my clients to explore their world in an authentic way. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Colorado.

My approach to therapy is eclectic and includes psychodynamic, EMDR, solutions-focused, existential, and cognitive behavioral therapies.
Are you a professional feeling stuck in your career? Do you question your purpose in life? Are you a young adult trying to find your path? Coloradans are overwhelmed with unrealistic societal expectations and constant technological evolution, increasing at a pace many of us can't keep up with. Social media, pressure to maintain a façade, political instability, and unknown future impacts of artificial intelligence have created a sense of chaos and unpredictability. This is especially true when someone is dealing with unprocessed traumatic experiences or strained relationships. I'm here to help you navigate life's increasing demands.

My practice is influenced by psychodynamic therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, MI, ACT and mindfulness techniques.
With a caring and trauma-informed approach, I help clients explore and examine the root causes of their current distress, weariness, and emptiness to begin the process of healing old wounds, breaking unhelpful patterns, and finding new hope. In this exploration, we also uncover and celebrate a client’s positive traits and strengths, helping them to shift their perspective to a more generous and compassionate understanding of themselves. I support my clients in the odyssey through self-exploration and self-awareness, helping them to build the courage to trust themselves, take action, and make lasting positive change in their lives.

Some of these approaches are behavioral, some are experiential, others fall under the category of psychodynamic.
Life is (blank). How do you fill in the (blank)? We are all striving to feel heard, understood and connected, but all too often this business of being human – our personal histories and our entangled thinking – brings struggle and suffering. We can lose our purpose, passion and vision. We can feel unsteady, and disconnected from our true self. I can help. My counseling approach is not about discipline, hard work or grit. It is about stilling the mind, seeing clearly, removing barriers and realizing your innate capacity. Capacity for wisdom, love, and resiliency. Capacity to realize your full potential.

My approach is psychodynamic but I utilize a variety of techniques to facilitate healing.
We all have a story to tell. In my 20+ years of counseling individuals and couples, I’ve had the honor of hearing many stories that exhibit the strength of individuals healing from grief, injustice, trauma and chronic illness. I’ve been inspired by the resiliency of the human spirit and the hopefulness that inevitably develops as the narrative of one’s life unfolds. It can be a painful process but one that yields great rewards as we gain understanding of what our story has to tell us about our past and helps us to plan for our future.

I believe most people are looking to feel connected. I see therapy as a space to explore the obstacles keeping us from connecting to other people, to our values, or towards our goals. I have a special interest in relationship issues and family of origin issues, which can often be precursors to depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, sleep issues, eating disorders, and a myriad of other mental health problems. I use predominantly psychodynamic methods in my clinical work and I believe that exploring our past is crucial in understanding and changing the present.

I incorporate techniques from modalities such as ACT, IFS, Interpersonal Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Narrative Therapy in my work with clients.
I am a pre-licensed therapist primarily interested in working with adults in a counseling setting. I enjoy working with clients pursuing mental health and substance abuse treatment—both concurrently and separately. I take an integrative approach to counseling, operating through a relational, person-centered lens. I believe my clients are the writers of their own life story, and the experts of themselves. Everyone deserves the opportunity to feel truly seen and heard, and my over-arching goal is to provide that feeling to all of my clients.

I work largely from a psychodynamic framework, then integrate aspects mindfulness, interpersonal process therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) as appropriate.
Sometimes we find ourselves struggling over things we "shouldn't" or feeling down, anxious, or stuck "for no reason." We often criticize ourselves for struggling or try to grin and bear it, but these options often make things worse or at best maintain the status quo. Therapy, however, can help us learn how to navigate life's challenges and be kinder to ourselves in the process. Within the context of a genuine, empathic, collaborative, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, my goal is to help you learn about yourself, and together move you towards living the life you want.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I use a Psychodynamic approach to spark and fuel change that will empower you to gain access to your inherent health and wisdom.
You know how it goes. Life gets hard, things happen, and we develop creative strategies to protect ourselves from real, perceived, and/or anticipated threats of suffering. These strategies, accumulated overtime, suddenly seem to shape much of how we interact with the world. Some are useful and their cost outweighs the pain they help avoid. Others seem so random you can’t even tell how they started; although, you suspect they no longer serve you. A third kind are the strategies you don’t know you’re using, their cause, cost or benefits. After a while, you may feel less connected, less whole, and may not feel and experience as deeply.

My work with clients consists of a blend of Gestalt, Voice Dialogue, Internal Family Systems, Attachment-Focused therapy, mindfulness-awareness, insight-driven and experiential therapy, relational/interpersonal therapy, emotionally-focused therapy, psychodynamic techniques, body-centered therapy, psychedelic, and a blend of other common modalities-CBT, etc.
You have a calling to know yourself more completely, to make lasting changes in habitual pattens, to engage in the deep healing of unconscious unfinished business, and to integrate awakened insights fully into the body, into relationships, and into your life in the world. We get to know each other to build trust, identify areas for exploration, and then we dive. The therapeutic experience involves transformational epiphanies and the processing of hidden and stuck emotions. I gently challenge my clients to lean into uncomfortable places and build the tolerance for psycho-spiritual unfolding. See my website for more information.

I draw primarily from a Psychodynamic approach to therapy but have training in a variety of modalities, including EMDR and Brainspotting, specialized grief therapy, DBT, family systems, IFS, trauma therapy, and Imago couples therapy, so as to be able to meet my clients where they are and with what might best attend to their issues.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
