My primary modality of psychotherapy stems from the psychodynamic and interpersonal perspectives, although I also employ cognitive behavioral and existential techniques.
My successful clients are active psychotherapy participants who are dedicated and motivated for change. Introspective, he/she thinks about therapy outside of the office and attempts to use the knowledge and insight gained to improve relationships, goals, and life satisfaction. At times, psychotherapy requires difficult work from both the therapist and client, and the outcome is predicated by the mutual effort vested in the therapeutic process.

My focus is providing an approach integrating relational therapy, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based therapy.
I believe that life is a process of becoming. With the passing of time, we change and so our needs and wants within relationships change. Are you eager for positive change that improves your relationships with others and allows for new understanding and compassion for yourself? Increased awareness and clarity of unconscious patterns can provide opportunities to heal old wounds and create new paths and shifts towards fulfillment. I encourage prospective clients to give me a call and ask questions that might help you determine if my approach is a good fit for your current needs.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I use a Psychodynamic approach to spark and fuel change by helping you gain insight, clarity, and compassion for yourself, meaning in difficulties, and faith in the process.
You know how it goes. Life is hard, sh*t happens, and we develop creative strategies to protect ourselves from real, perceived, and/or anticipated threats of suffering. These strategies, accumulated overtime, suddenly seem to shape much of how we interact with the world. Some are useful and their cost outweighs the pain they help avoid. Others seem so random you can’t even tell how they started; although, you suspect they no longer serve you. A third kind are the strategies you don’t know you’re using, their cost and benefits. But, after a while, you may feel less connected, less whole, and may not feel and experience as deeply.

My style is eclectic, drawing from humanistic and relational approaches, driven by a psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and dialectical-behavioral lens.
Collaboratively, we focus on healing, resilience, and reconnection. Feeling ashamed is scary and overwhelming. These feelings are more common than we admit and stem from a variety of factors. It makes sense to respond to unpleasant emotions by burying, ignoring, or resisting. If unprocessed, these beliefs impact our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and lives--leaving us repeating painful patterns and thus, shaping our relationships with ourselves, others, and the world.

Therapy works best when it is collaborative, which is why I weave various treatment modalities into my approach, including psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, and EMDR.
Seeking therapy is less about ‘fixing’ ourselves and more about learning to acknowledge discomfort. This is so we can unlock barriers that may be getting in the way of living the life we want. We learn to give ourselves permission to heal and grow because we are worth it, though we do not always believe this. Whether you are navigating shame and self-judgement, anxiety or depression, the effects of trauma, or craving a deeper connection with yourself and others, my therapy style is that of a deep commitment to holding space for you to explore, and when you feel ready, heal discomfort and connect to your true self.

I practice with an integrated approach grounded in psychodynamic, relational, ACT, and cognitive-behavioral principles to meet your goals and needs.
I view therapy as a collaborative, interactive process that can powerfully foster change and repairs. I enjoy helping individuals understand the themes that echo through their lives, broaden their sense of self, build emotional flexibility, and develop meaningful relationships. In sessions, I work to foster curiosity and empower individuals to develop authenticity, autonomy, and self-compassion. I also strive to playfully challenge unproductive beliefs and explore the function of behaviors. I received my master's degree in 2009 and PsyD in 2012 from the University of Denver.

I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy and draw from other theories, including multicultural, feminist, and psychodynamic.
My therapy approach is open and honest. I show up as both a human and psychologist, and do not emphasize a professional power hierarchy. I am an advocate for racial justice, LGBTQ+ equality and rights, and human rights more broadly. I am not value neutral on such topics. It is important for my clients to know that my full-time job is as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice at University of Denver’s Counseling Psychology Program where I teach and supervise students learning to be therapists. Therefore, my private practice is part-time and I have limited flexibility for scheduling.

My approach is integrative, with experience/training in interpersonal, psychodynamic, existential, systems, and solution-focused therapies, depending on your individual needs.
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression/grief, or frustration/anger? I am optimistic we can work together to reduce these symptoms, so that you can move forward with renewed confidence and hope. Changes of life issues: death of a loved-one; marriage/divorce; loss of good health; financial concerns; or problems with relationships, often precipitate these symptoms in many people. Yet, these painful situations also present wonderful opportunities for reflection, personal growth, and resolution.

I use combination of mindfulness, Internal Family Systems, & psychodynamic principles to help you better understand yourself & why you experience the feelings you do.
Life satisfaction is most closely correlated to the quality of relationships you have with others & most importantly, the quality of relationship you have with yourself. These can both be improved by better understanding your past & adapting how you respond in the present. Together, we practice new ways of experiencing difficult emotions to make them more manageable & less threatening. We will explore & better understand the stories you hold of who you ARE, who you SHOULD be, & how these formed over time which can result in increased self-understanding & self-compassion.

I believe most people are looking to feel connected. I see therapy as a space to explore the obstacles keeping us from connecting to other people, to our values, or towards our goals. I have a special interest in relationship issues and family of origin issues, which can often be precursors to depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, sleep issues, eating disorders, and a myriad of other mental health problems. I use predominantly psychodynamic methods in my clinical work and I believe that exploring our past is crucial in understanding and changing the present.

While my primary orientation is humanistic and person-centered, I rely on psychodynamic, cognitive and behavioral interventions to help facilitate change.
***ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS*** Psychological science has proven that significant portions of our brains and minds are malleable. We are constantly shaped by our life's experiences, and being able to harness that change to your advantage is the mark of a well-adjusted person. My role is to empower you to engage in this process of self-transformation. If you are ready to take the first step, let’s talk. My style of therapy is very much like my personality: open-minded, non-judgemental, compassionate, and direct. I imbue my sessions with a sense of humor, as I believe laughter can be just as cathartic and healing as crying.

Specific interventions that she utilizes most are EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Psychodynamic Therapy.
There are times in life when we feel stuck. Sometimes it's due to patterns of thinking/behavior that aren’t working for us anymore & other times its from events in our past that are affecting our present. But what we now know with neuroscience is that we can actually reshape how our past experiences impact our current lives. In counseling we can help you better understand your story & make sense of what is keeping you stuck. Sometimes healing looks like challenging negative thought patterns and other times its through trauma processing. By honoring your story you can experience new levels of emotion, self-compassion and connection.

I am a Board-certified psychiatrist who has been practicing for 26 years. At the time of my residency, psychiatrists were trained in both psychotherapy and the use of medication when appropriate. I continue to believe that the combined use of these treatments by one caregiver is the best approach to helping people achieve their treatment goals. My approach is flexible but the focus of my training primarily involved psychodynamic psychotherapy as well as supportive psychotherapy. Currently, I am working only virtually via Facetime or Zoom or by phone but am hopeful that this will expand if that is preferred.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Psychodynamic therapy in Denver, also known as insight-oriented therapy, evolved from Freudian psychoanalysis. Like adherents of psychoanalysis, psychodynamic therapists believe that bringing the unconscious into conscious awareness promotes insight and resolves conflict. But psychodynamic therapy is briefer and less intensive than psychoanalysis and also focuses on the relationship between the therapist and the client, as a way to learn about how the client relates to everyone in their life.
