While the heart of my approach is attachment-based and psychodynamic, I regularly incorporate ideas from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based behavioral approaches such as ACT and DBT.
Life is messy. As we all navigate it the best we can, a lot of us find survival strategies that make sense at the time but don’t serve us in the long run. If you or your child are having trouble in relationships, feeling consistently down or anxious, or finding yourself stuck in painful past experiences, therapy can help identify patterns that don’t serve you and build practices that enable you to thrive.

I use a variety of modalities which incorporate best practice from Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Psycho-education, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
Are you feeling helpless in dealing with your child/teen emotional and behavioral issues? Do you feel lost in connecting with your child/teen? You want to help them but don't know how? I have been working with children, adults, and families for over 15 years to bring out their potential in mindfulness, creativity and relationships through individual and family therapy. Through this process, clients get to know themselves better, in a safe and supportive environment. I develop a therapeutic relationship based on their needs and goals. My experience includes treating individuals with depression, anxiety, anger, and trauma.

My theoretical approach is psychodynamic, which is tailored to fit the needs of each client.
I am an associate marriage family therapist. I have approximately three years of experience working with foster children and families, and at-risk youth. I have provided therapy for teenagers and survivors of domestic violence. These opportunities have given me a desire to continue serving children, teens, families, and all ages and groups of people at all stages of life. I have worked with individuals exhibiting signs of depression, anxiety, trauma, suicide ideation, and self-harming behaviors. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe environment while building a secure therapeutic alliance with my clients.

I use both psychodynamic and humanistic approaches to help you reach self directed goals.
Everyone has a life story filled with unique colors. Each color represents personal experiences, strengths, behaviors, relationships, and our inner world. Sometimes we find it hard to navigate through challenges and to face realities, which are unfamiliar and/or unexpected. Prior experiences may interrupt our current way of interacting, thinking, relating, and managing daily life. Stress contributes to increased anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, and relational issues. Trauma can debilitate individuals, couples, and families creating abrupt internal changes and fears. Grief over individual loss needs to be honored and acknowledged. Change occurs as a direct result of uncovering new insights.

I use a psychodynamic framework and collaborative problem-solving to find proactive solutions that include adaptive communication, psychoeducation, interventions, accommodations, and a place to reflect on what is working and what needs to change.
Being a human being is complicated, and complex, and can sometimes be overwhelming. It is therapeutic to have someone to share our true selves with free of judgment. I believe each client holds the answers, and in my work, I support you on your journey. I meet you where you are, and together we identify where you would like to go, and what parts of yourself you would like to call forward. I can help you explore your inner world, and help you connect your internal experiences to your external experiences. I support clients dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and relational dynamics.

I take a psychodynamic approach including cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness and DBT.
Deciding to work with a therapist is a big step, often accompanied by feelings of uncertainty about what to expect. To begin, I'll ask questions and listen carefully as you tell me about yourself. Together, we can begin to understand how things are, how they got to be that way, how you've been managing, and in what ways you'd like things to be different. Once I have a sense of who you are and what you want, I will be a committed and caring collaborator on your journey.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
