My primary approach is psychodynamic, trauma informed and relational.
I believe that all of us have an intrinsic ability to heal and grow regardless of what life has thrown at us. In my experience, healing comes within relationships, and through our work together you will discover (or re-discover) your own strengths and capacities to manage stresses and difficult situations in life. I particularly work well with clients who are in crisis or have found other short-term approaches not sufficient to manage symptoms and underlying patterns.

I work from a strength-based, psychodynamic approach with your needs and goals as the center of our treatment plan.
A wise man once said “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light.” - Albus Dumbledore, as written in Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. Yes, Dumbledore is fictional, but his words ring true for many. My goal is to help you find that light switch in order to let your own internal light shine through. As we move through different life events, we are all bound to find ourselves needing help and support in time of turmoil. My goal is to help you feel supported, validated, and heard as you work through traumas, concerns, or worries.

I am always sure to provide a safe and respectful environment in order to change harmful patterns of thinking, behaving, or feeling that stem from past experiences and underlying presenting symptoms, while working on practical solutions to immediate problems. I treat both individuals and couples. The most common presenting problems I see are depression, anxiety, interpersonal relational issues, OCD, behavior addiction, substance addiction, and life/time management problems.

Asking for help can be difficult. Realizing you need to make a change or “unlearn” some habits and ideas that are not serving you well can be a bold brave move. I teach individual and couples skills to help them through overwhelming feelings and make lifestyle changes to interrupt those destructive cycles. Whether you need to process traumatic thoughts or knock down those mental barriers that have been holding you back from your own personal goals and relationships I would like to help you explore those needs.

In my years of experience providing therapy in different setting I've learned that you should use the therapeutic modality that not only fits the symptoms but also the individual. I have found that listening to your client's and using a client centered approach is what makes the biggest impact.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
