Through the use of Brainspotting, Psychodynamic therapy, Mindfulness Based therapy, Internal Family System and KAP we can give you the power to take control of your own destiny.
Have you ever wondered why after years of talk therapy your trauma resurfaces? Feeling like the only thing that helps you survive is avoiding and dissociating? Are you struggling to advocate and set boundaries for yourself? Or feeling so depressed/anxious that you can’t reach for hope to feel happiness and peace? Our behaviors are a result of our experiences. I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. So let me pour you a cup of tea or coffee, and let’s talk. Therapy isn’t meant to be hard, it is meant to provide you with a safe, judgment free space to process your story.

I've incorporated a variety of different theoretical approaches from CBT, DBT, Client-Centered, Psychodynamic, object-relational, trauma-focused, family systems, solutions-focused, and grief and loss.
My name is Hope Gibbons; I'm Native American/Hispanic and offer a culturally sensitive, empathetic, nonjudgmental compassionate approach to therapy. I hope to offer a space of acceptance, positive regard, and openness. I have experience working with many populations, particularly with trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and substance use. I strongly believe the client is the expert in their own treatment and the best narrator of their own story. I believe in the power of an individual's resilience and a desire to persevere.

I use Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Psychodynamic, and/or Solution Oriented Therapy.
Have recent traumatic events in your life affected the way you cope? Those events can trigger emotions that can result in our everyday activities becoming more difficult. More often in today's complex world, people of all ages are experiencing stress, anxiety, and depression that has negatively impacted our functioning at school, at home, or at work. Family and Peer relationships can be strained. Experiencing multiple stressors in life can make change seem more difficult. Seeking out someone to help, listen and explore ways of dealing with that change can ease the anxiety of it all. I would like to be that person to help you.

I love helping folks that walk through my door feeling lost and unsure find their best, true self. I actively encourage looking at our learned behaviors that lead us to masking and hiding who we truly are to pass and "appear well" when inside it is exhausting and feels inauthentic. I provide collaborative and strengths-focused counseling to discuss and deconstruct whatever feels like it is limiting your growth, past or present, even if that thing is yourself!

Sometimes it's difficult to look at the life we have and compare it to the life we'd like to have, without feeling disillusioned and powerless. Anxiety, depression, life transition, work-life balance, etc., all make life hard. If you find yourself in this position, you're not alone. Processing disappointment and overcoming difficulties can take time, and sometimes it feels like we're stuck and never going to be able to move on in life. If you're having difficulty finding your way, I am here to help.

Hello, and thanks for dropping by. Life can be incredibly lonely and harsh. My goal is to support you, gently and honestly, towards increased self respect and worthiness. Licensed since 1999, I have vast experience with children and adults. Depression, anxiety, complicated traumas and grief; issues regarding foster care and adoption; sexual abuse, parenting, and/or child welfare are areas I'm well versed in. I'm genuine, compassionate, and I tell it like it is. Most importantly, you deserve a therapist with whom you're comfortable. That search can be trying, but it's worthy because you are. I'd be honored to be that person.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
