I provide depth-based, relational psychotherapy for adults, strongly influenced by psychodynamic and developmental theories. My goal is to help you heal from social and emotional wounds which show up as depression, anxiety, social isolation, or relationship struggles. We may also travel down an existential path, exploring the meaning and purpose of your journey. I lean into the quote from Nietzsche: The person who "has a Why to live can endure almost any How."

I specialize in whole-person centered therapy and I utilize Brain-spotting and psychodynamic therapy approaches to help clients process and heal from past trauma.
From the outside looking in, you are tough, resilient and there is nothing you can't manage on your own. But inwardly, you feel consumed by anxiety, hindered from memories of the past on constant replay and intrusive thoughts about the future interrupting your concentration on other things. Your sleep is imbalanced and you feel little to no motivation to care for yourself in small basic ways each day. You feel overwhelmed by life's expectations and are starting to avoid the people, places and activities that used to make you smile! You want change, to feel happy with your choices, and to be fulfilled with yourself once more.

I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy to individuals committed to exploring their maladaptive behaviors and concerning emotional experiences. Psychodynamic therapy emphasizes the relationship between the therapist and client as the core of the healing process. Working in therapy with me is going beyond the symptoms and moving deeper to what fuels the anxiety, depression, anger, etc. We hope to arrive at a goal of better understanding you as a person and what fuels your thoughts, feelings, desires and hopes. I work with the client to develop a goal, while always keeping in mind the goal of long-term emotional growth and stability.

My specialty in psychodynamic therapy, CBT, and ACT allows me to offer insight and hope.
Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional. If you're in a cycle of depression, stress, or anxiety, it's time to prioritize and care for yourself. When suffering goes unchecked it has a way of affecting your personality, your performance, and your relationships. You lose perspective, patience, and the ability to cope effectively. In time, negative thinking becomes a way of life.

Using a psychodynamic approach helps one work through grief and stress.
I believe what people need to be well in life is to feel heard, understood, and accepted for who they are. I provide this to my clients through active and reflective listening, powerful questioning to provoke deeper thinking about one's challenges, and manageable practices to help you understand your own thoughts and beliefs about your challenges. When struggling with challenging issues such as end-of-life, grief, and depression, life can feel heavy and unmanageable. Clarifying one's needs and values can be a good starting point for creating goals to work toward. Having measurable goals provides purpose when things seem hopeless.

Anxious during these uncertain times, try some simple tips to take back your life. Breathe. Sit upright, feet flat on the floor, inhale to a count of 4, exhale to a count of 4, repeat for a couple minutes. Write down all that worries you. Pick the top 3. Write out possible solutions, even bad ones. Identify the most practical and how you would do it. Get negative thoughts out of your head. Manage your anger. Breathe. Identify what’s frustrating. What you can do about it? Some things just have to run their own course. Move around. Do something different. Go into another room, do something else.

We all have times where we need someone to listen. Sometimes, we don't even know why we feel unsettled. We are not broken or need to be fixed. We have the capacity to heal inside of ourselves. My job is to assist clients to find that voice inside, that "self" leadership that is our best guidance to our authentic self. I believe therapy is a parallel process where I walk next to you and I hold the space for your healing. Our work together is an opportunity for you to find your true north. Our work together will be what you want to accomplish and a deep discussion about your needs, issues and desires.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
