(Psychodynamic, CBT) I find the clients contextual experience is a valuable component to their recovery, and I invite family therapy.
Sometimes we find ourselves seeking help and support when life hands us a path we aren't prepared to deal with. I believe that understanding and exploring the authentic self is essential in overcoming many complex struggles. I work to help uncover what my clients basic truth is, and in doing so work with anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, parenting, pregnancy, and family dynamics.

I use both cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapies.
You may be struggling with negative relational patterns, depression or anxiety. You may feel that at this time you want to sort through experiences, thoughts or feelings with the help of a skilled professional. You may want to take control of behaviors that are not serving you any longer or understand yourself on a deeper level so that choices you make in the future are truly aligned with your values. You might be experiencing deep sadness, unrelenting anxiety or just unease and being unable to name your feelings.

Drawing from a Psychodynamic foundation and incorporating elements of other modalities such as Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, CBT, and Solution-Focused Therapy, I collaborate with clients to tailor the powerful healing process of therapy to their unique experiences and needs.
Change and growth are possible. Whether you are feeling stuck in a tiny dusty corner or lost in an enormous ocean, I'll meet you right where you are and help get you where you want to be. Taking the first step can be difficult, but will be rewarding as, together, the work that we begin now will expand your relationship to yourself and the world around you.

My approach is rooted in a psychodynamic lens, pulling from mindfulness practices, creative arts therapies, and shadow work.
You might be feeling overwhelmed or anxious about the prospect of embarking in therapy. It takes a lot of strength to take the first step to reach out for support, and you are well on your way to starting your journey of self-discovery. Perhaps you are confronting inner scripts that no longer serve you, struggling with restrictive thoughts and beliefs, or even re-visiting therapy for help with a specific challenge. Whatever the case, I will meet you where you are in your process, create the space for you to show up authentically, and provide the support you need to embark on your own inner exploration.

In this day and age it can be very difficult to just exist. The world appears to be evolving faster each day which can make it extremely difficult to be grounded with oneself. At times, one could feel anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed because the amount one has to manage on their own. Finding peace in a world that is unpredictable and scary can appear unattainable. I write this because I live in this world as well. I view therapy as a means to finding the tools and skills to cope with trauma, addiction, work, relationship distress, and/or family dynamics to ultimately find empowerment in oneself.

It takes time to choose the best therapist for you. When you're ready, let's talk and see if we might be a good fit. I appreciate the importance of this process, which is why I offer a free phone consultation to address any questions or concerns you may have prior to scheduling an appointment. Consider me a resource- even if we don't end up working together. Remember, life can be much more than survival. Change is closer than you may think. Keep reaching out.

My practice focuses on helping individuals, couples, and families who are suffering from emotional or physical pain or the aftereffects of trauma. We help them resolve the traumatic experience, as well as its consequences (e.g. physical pain, stress, disability, depression, anxiety, insomnia, medication dependence, isolation, etc.) Although many of our patients have not responded well to prior therapies, we've had outstanding success in helping them move from feeling a severe loss to finding a new and positive beginning. We love to work with people who are ready to change and eager to learn how to do it.

I work in many ways depending on the unique situation of my clients. I find that working on both a conscious and subconscious level to be extremely precise and powerful in getting to the root of a problem, changing patterns and programming, letting go, facilitating a natural healing process, and replacing unhealthy with healthy ways of fulfilling certain needs, and achieving certain goals.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
