I work from a strength-based, depth-oriented, psychodynamic perspective and provide nonjudgmental transformative therapeutic counseling and guidance while fostering interpersonal growth and change thru problem solving, cognitive behavioral skills development, and the power of a therapeutically corrective interpersonal relationship with my clients.
My deepest professional aspiration is to enable others to discover their own motivations for change and to find within themselves the ability to take responsibility for their thought life and thus find the power to take actions and thereby make dramatic and transformative changes in their lives. In working with individuals, couples, and groups, my aim is to foster self-esteem, coping skills and encourage building positive and supportive relationships. I work with individual clients, couples, and lead weekly therapy groups. Deep lasting change that is already beginning iswithin your grasp. Reach out, I'd be honored to work with you.

By embracing the unloved or rejected parts of ourselves, by bringing love and understanding where it has not been, and by bringing care to our wounds - we come into our wholeness. I help you lighten what you have been carrying and to love the all of you.

I work with people, not labels. It’s about you, not a diagnosis. And it’s about me, not a degree. It becomes about us working together for your goals, whatever those are-I can help. We’re so surprised when we feel something but it “doesn’t make sense”. We “should” ourselves & judge. We waste a helluva lot of time doing this. How often have you tried to think yourself out of a feeling? I know!! Me too. Doesn't work. Together we can figure out how & why you think & feel the way you do. You can't think your way out of depression, anxiety, trauma or anything else. You can talk & feel yourself out, though. Here is what I believe.

Things aren't working inside of you. You may have put together a fairly decent life but on the inside, you aren't enjoying it. You may be more and more uncomfortable in your body. You know the "right" things to do but they don't seem to get to the heart of the problem. You may even have tried therapy before without it truly helping. It may not have gone deep enough. You are probably experiencing early developmental trauma that was never properly addressed. Early developmental trauma patterns have a way of resurfacing in times of crisis and change.

As a psychologist licensed in both NY and TX, my aim is to help people understand and overcome challenges that are restricting their well being, relationships, and effectiveness at work. For adults, I specialize in these issues: high-achievers, stress management, relationship issues, life transitions, parenting, marital or family conflicts, anxiety and depression (e.g., social anxiety, covid-19 related). It is truly rewarding to watch my clients become more self-regulated, more satisfied in their relationships, and more equipped to handle life’s stressors through learned coping skills.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
