My practice embodies emotional and behavioral self-regulation, multiple treatment modalities (including psychodynamic, attachment, cognitive-behavioral, relational, motivational, trauma-informed, strength-based), mindfulness techniques including nature therapy.
Waking up to another morning feeling the same anxiety and dread about your job, school, self-identity, partner, or family? Does life feel like all too much? Or maybe even empty? Are you ready to take steps forward while being present in the right here, right now? To feel excited by life and at peace with it? To breathe in fresh air, whatever your obstacles? My approach begins with you and your relationship with yourself, the people around you, your environment. We all suffer from common problems in life, love, and work, but the solutions that work for each of us are as unique as we are.

I provide straight-forward, psychodynamic insight-oriented talk therapy to adults of all ages.
While I have extensive experience treating adults and adolescents of all ages, many patients I see in my practice are in their 20’s-40's. Often they have experienced significant trauma in their lives that has resulted in intense feelings of depression and anxiety. There often is disruption and disappointment in relationships. This work can be challenging in ways we cannot always predict, so it is important that the therapist and patient together create a safe space that supports increasing awareness. I believe this can only be achieved when people are making progress in real-time towards more fulfilling lives.

I have formal training in a Psychodynamic theory but will follow a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) model, when appropriate.
The focus of my practice is to help others overcome low self-esteem/confidence, relationship or interpersonal issues, a sense of disconnection, difficulties with school or career, "impostor syndrome," and the pressures of starting a family. These issues often entail finding a helpful way to cope with anxiety, depression, anger, and other difficult emotions.

My approach is relational psychodynamic, with an eye towards what historical and intergenerational trauma may have brought my patients to therapy.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who offers individual, couples, and group psychotherapy to adults across the lifespan seeking treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, and grief and bereavement. I also believe therapy offers an opportunity for exploration of questions not necessarily tied to discrete symptoms, including those related to identity and interpersonal relationships.

Integrating a psychodynamic, attachment, cultural attunement, cognitive, and mindfulness approaches, I work in a collaborative and engaged manner.
JUNE 2022: Currently accepting individuals for psychodynamically informed, attachment-oriented, weekly therapy or couples for weekly EFT-based couples therapy (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy). EFT-based couples therapy seeks to help couples identify the interactional patterns that keep couples disconnected. In understanding these patterns, we work to help partners learn and understand their habitual protective behaviors, their partner's protective behaviors, and to practice NEW ways of responding to one's self and one's partner.

I’m a psychodynamic talk therapist.
No one likes struggling. It's hard. And even though we don't all talk about, we all do it --we struggle. It feels easier to struggle alone because it's safe. But deep down we're looking for someone to share it with. We're looking for someone to understand us, make sense of our feelings, and offer us support along the way. Hard to find, isn't it? Well, that's where I come in. Whether you're overwhelmed, alone, or struggling with a new major life transition, I can help you. Therapy can help you. Together we will figure out your feelings: what they mean, where they come from, and what you want to do with them.

My approach is primarily psychodynamic.
Are you feeling overwhelmed or stuck? Maybe the things that used to help you feel better aren’t working anymore, or are making things worse. Whatever the reason you are seeking therapy, I believe that seeking help in this way reflects your fortitude and hope. I view therapy as a means of further cultivating these strengths and as a process that can allow for lasting change and expanding possibilities.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
