The therapeutic space is one which asks people to approach difficult experiences, relationships, behaviors, emotions or parts of themselves, that for a multitude of reasons has been too painful or frightening to confront. My role is to partner with you in facing these difficulties, and provide a safe and empathic space in which exploration, increased insight and self awareness, make change possible. I address individual needs through integrating modalities such as CBT, DBT, skills/coping techniques, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I am committed to working with clients towards the goals and growth they seek for themselves.

My approach is relational psychodynamic, with an eye towards what historical and intergenerational trauma may have brought my patients to therapy.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who offers individual, couples, and group psychotherapy to adults across the lifespan seeking treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, and grief and bereavement. I also believe therapy offers an opportunity for exploration of questions not necessarily tied to discrete symptoms, including those related to identity and interpersonal relationships.

When the time comes to make a change, it takes courage to ask for support. To be one who can respond to that request is a privilege. Starting in community mental health (access for all) and moving into my private practice, I have had experience working with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and grieving with adults, children, couples, and the LGBTQ community. I specialize in working with people who have a history of trauma, big and small, and varied relational issues. I integrate my psychodynamic and relational training with long- or short-term, problem focused psychotherapeutic work as well as EMDR treatment.

I draw on a variety of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness techniques to best meet the unique needs of my clients.
There are times in life when our usual coping strategies and support networks are not enough and feelings such as anxiety, depression, helplessness, and inadequacy can take over. It is at these times that psychotherapy can help to successfully navigate life's challenges. I help clients to better understand how past and current experiences impact their current wellbeing, and to make positive changes that will contribute to improved feelings of competence in managing relationships, changes, and other stressors more productively. I specialize in working with individuals who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, relationships, life transitions, parenting, and loss.

My role as a therapist is to help you navigate life's challenges. Therapy is an opportunity to explore parts of yourself that might be causing distress. It allows you the ability to process and release emotions that have previously caused you to feel stuck, to recognize patterns in behavior and relationships over time, and to assert your needs in order to feel safe. My approach is relational and psychodynamic and I work from the understanding that our earliest attachments inform the way we engage in our present day relationships.

My approach is strength-based and trauma-informed, blending psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person centered approaches to suit the needs of each client.
Difficult experiences and painful relationships can affect our connection with our bodies, as well as our identities, and our sense of self-worth. As we begin to heal our relationship with ourselves, we can expand the ways in which we show up in our lives. I offer a non-judgmental and reflective space to process and explore your past, present, and future, with the goal of helping you identify and work through opportunities for growth and healing. Together we'll embark on a path to help you understand what barriers are present. You will learn to prioritize and trust in yourself, while developing tools to care for your mental health.

I am trained in both psychodynamic/relational, as well as CBT approaches, and am highly adaptive to your changing needs and goals.
Feel like something is holding you back from your potential and goals or like you aren't able to access your true self? Are you craving connection, meaning and deepening? Life stressors or transitions may feel overwhelming, or you may be feeling stagnant/stuck and unable to attain goals. Life situations and circumstances that challenge you are often the most rewarding and formative; yet adapting and managing your thoughts, feelings and behaviors in collaboration with a seasoned therapist can often make the process more manageable and the outcomes more productive and in alignment with your values. Licensed in NY, NJ and VA

I use an integrative approach, providing psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and supportive therapy, and believe understanding how the past impacts your current situation can lead to lasting change.
Are you feeling upset, overwhelmed or lacking confidence due to transitions in your life? Adapting to a change, even if it is wanted and expected, can be challenging. Life changes can involve losses such as the end of a relationship, a death or job reversal; but positive changes, like leaving for college, entering the work force, becoming a new parent and relocating can also be stressful and scary. People often fear and avoid change causing them to feel stuck and leading to missed opportunities.

Psychotherapy is the process of facing obstacles that block our growth. In a trusting therapeutic relationship one can learn to let go of fears and unhealthy patterns of behavior. Together we will create an environment where curiosity, intellect, feelings and humor allow one to evolve and change.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
