I identify as a (W)holistic Psychologist in orientation. Human beings have complex connections between their psyche, socio-cultural background and biological self, and are influenced by personal life experiences. The interplay of these aspects are where imbalances may occur and informative symptoms may arise. In my practice, we would collaborate on identifying these connections and reveal unconscious internal reactions that cause us to act, and react in our interpersonal relationships and life choices. My patients seek an authentic life, with increased self-knowledge and a decrease in pain and symptoms

I am mostly enjoy working with those who are looking to find balance in their mental and spiritual health. Those in search of these ideals are most important in every ones life. This includes couples therapy. Also those who have experienced domestic violence and sexual abuse and those who have experienced spiritual insight after years of searching, such as I have. This includes teens and male and female adults.

I believe that each person has within them a source for healing that once the body and mind can connect, can be found. Using an integrative approach with multiple theories of psychotherapy, wilderness and grounding, creates a relationship with one’s own body, opening the opportunity for acceptance in the present moment without judgment. Holding a warm, open and kind space to meet ourselves and accept where we are on our path is a goal for my clients and myself.

My work draws from psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems approaches.
My therapeutic orientation encourages me to see people as unique individuals who have particular strengths. While building on these strengths, we focus on issues in their past and current relationships that are causing difficulties. Within the context of an empathic and confidential relationship, psychological growth and comfort are possible.

Our work together will focus on you in your singularity, including the here-and-now of your experiences and relationships. You and I will participate in a mutual dialogue, using everyday language, in order to illuminate and describe the patterns of your life and world. This will allow us to identity those patterns that generate suffering and are obstacles to what you desire in your life. The contemporary psychoanalytic approach is based on the idea that self-understanding and transformation can occur when we work in a collaborative relationship to make sense of your life in ways that are meaningful to you.

My therapeutic orientation is Jungian psychoanalytic.
I will help you find your own way through the difficulties and crises as they may reveal your longing for more authenticity in life. Anxiety, depression, vague emptiness, sudden anger outburst felt within yourself or in your relationships may be a call for your unlived self so it can be integrated; it doesn't have to be just a problem that needs a fix or correction. This integration is the key to bring completeness and fulfillment in both yourself and your relationships.

My approach is deeply relational, psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, based in attachment and family systems theory, Somatic Experiencing, and Energy Fluency therapy.
Seeking therapy can be a daunting process, while also being one step toward greater wholeness/healing. Relationship is where we are both wounded and healed. I work with individuals seeking relief from distressing symptoms such as; demanding too much of yourself, finding it hard to trust self, trust your own experience, self-soothing through addictive behaviors, pleasing others at your own expense, anxiety, depression, CPTSD. Our patterns of relating develop early within our first attachments, so our journey might include visiting some of those relationships to wonder how they impact you in the here and now.

I completed a master's in social work from Columbia University, Psychoanalytic training at the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute 1996-2002, Adult Certification in Psychoanalysis by the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA), and child work at the Ryther Child and Anna Freud Centers.
We will work together to help you manage feelings stirred up by isolation, loneliness, anger, unfair self-criticism, and poor self-esteem. I use knowledge of human development and the mind to teach you to manage anxiety, anger, and depression. It is not unusual for my clients to discover creativity from childhood that had become dormant in adult life through our work together, and I can help clients progress quickly with fewer sessions. Why pay psychiatrist fees when you can see a certified psychoanalyst for less and progress better and more quickly?

The psychoanalytic relationship allows us to work in the here-and-now to help discover fresh insights about yourself, give you more confidence, freedom, and a sense of possibility.
People seek help for many reasons such as depressed mood, chronic loneliness, dread and isolation, stormy relationships, and loss. I strongly believe that an under-the-surface approach most effectively alleviates suffering, promotes growth, healing and self-understanding. Parents may bring their child for treatment because of disruptions in the home or school. Through play therapy (and supporting the parents) the behaviors and symptoms can be understood and worked with, leading to change and ultimately, a return to the normal developmental path.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
