My practice is based in psychoanalytic theory with a deep regard for personal autonomy and a recognition of the political and social forces that shape our realities.
The experience of suffering is unique for each individual and deserves respect and attention. I work to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can speak openly and be heard. Using language as our medium, I listen closely and with curiosity to hear your questions, fears, and desires. I wonder with you in a collaborative process about how your narratives have been formed and intervene to support revisions, bringing you into greater alignment with your personal truths. Putting words to experience lays the groundwork for greater mental freedom and lasting change to take place.

Not sure where to start? Searching for the "right" words? Concerned about talking to a 'complete stranger' about your anxiety/depression, relationship/work struggles, AD[H]D/ creativity blocks? Sure I "know" about people's struggles, individually & as couples -- and how to overcome these-- as well as different approaches to therapy. I have listened to & helped many folks over 35 years as a NYState Licensed Clinical Psychologist & Certified Adult Psychoanalyst. In addition, I have been an Adjunct Associate Professor (at NYU, Brooklyn College, & several NYC psychoanalytic institutes); I was in my own analysis; & I continue to supervise less experienced clinicians.

I specialize in using a psychoanalytic approach to unlock the unconscious occurrences of vulnerabilities, self-sabotage, addictions, low self-worth, low self esteem, impulses, guilt fantasies, shame, and urges.
The Client/Therapist relationship traditionally begins in a office, where the Therapist sits in the chair and the client rest comfortably on the couch reciting their life challenges. Often times there is a stillness in the room and a empty space of the unkown. Fortunately, this not my therapeutic approach. I specialize in counseling individuals that struggle with anxiety, depression,PTSD,Sexual Abuse, and Domestic Violence. Using the psychoanalytic approach we collaboratively take the journey to your personal journey of healing and obtaining life fulfillment. Are you ready to find the peace in your life you’ve been looking for?

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
