Using methods psychoanalytic and client centered techniques I help clients work through past traumas, anxiety, and relationship issues to find their voice.
Seeking a better state of mental health is a fundamentally hopeful endeavor. I firmly believe that every person has the internal capacity for change and I hope to help each person to turn that hope into progress.

Using an Engendered Psychoanalytic lens to examine thoughts and behaviors that interfere with developing and maintaining good relationships, people are enabled to develop a new perspective more consistent with healing.
I work with individuals suffering from depression, anxiety and trauma. I also see families dealing with Life Transitions including new medical diagnosis, the move of a parent to Long-term care, children leaving home. My clients include military families, as well as married, divorcing or struggling couples. Our work together often includes recognizing grief as a natural process of change and growth. I also provide clinical supervision and consultation services for mental health providers.

My theoretical orientation is psychoanalytic, but I also draw from other schools of thought when suitable.
Every person is unique and capable of realizing their potential in an optimal environment. However, life is filled with so many challenges and it is not unusual to feel discouraged or unable to meet those challenges. Building a relationship based on acceptance and trust with my clients is my priority. I listen carefully and help them develop an understanding of what has led them to unsatisfying thoughts, feelings and behaviors. We explore and identify how significant past experiences have shaped their present life. When working with teens, parents are essential part of the therapy and always welcome to collaborate.

With thirty years of experience in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, I now use a transpersonal or more personalized therapy approach with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.
There are times in our lives that we can become stuck, not knowing how, where, or who to turn to. We may feel lost, alone, depressed, angry, traumatized, fragmented, hopeless, afraid - floundering & needing direction. Does this sound like your situation? I'll help you to untangle your emotional knots - so that you can rekindle your dreams toward living the life you truly deserve. I specialize in issues of empowerment with a focus on your humanity and relationships (less on diagnostic labels). Welcome!

Beginning therapy and finding a new therapist can feel challenging yet hopeful. It is important to find a therapist with whom you can form a close bond and who begins to understand you. This bond can give way to more deep and meaningful therapeutic work. As an Object Relations psychoanalytical psychotherapist I will use our therapeutic relationship as the primary vehicle for change. Psychoanalytic work helps provide relief from debilitating symptoms as well as addresses the deeper underlying causes of your symptoms. Our work also allows for exploration in understanding unconscious drives that shape your daily life and relationships.

I work best with adolescent and adult clients who appreciate a direct, to-the-point approach. I give lots of feedback and make my thoughts known. This approach tends to open up awarenesses that may have been unknown for a very long time. It is exciting to see this process unfold in individual psychotherapy.

Life is continuously presenting us with new challenges, often causing us to question our decisions or how we will manage such obstacles. This uncertainty can lead to complicated emotions that may seem too overwhelming to manage alone. Genuine support and guidance, as well as a safe, non-biased environment may be the answer to overcoming these battles and gaining a sense of peace.

I have a full and deep life of experience to draw from in meeting my clients in sacred space. The loss of a son, a marriage, a career, accumulated material rewards, and most importantly, the potential of life unlived; dreams unfulfilled. This is soul work. Prepared by the vulnerability of my story, I hold insight and compassion for those whose burdens must be eased into, passed through, and reborn into new purpose, for the quality of our life is in our overcoming. Navigating the troubled waters of depression, anxiety, relational fissures, and archetypal energies is the first threshold of a healing journey.

I work with individuals, couples, families, adolescents, children, and LGBTQs. I like to delve into the depression, anxiety, or whatever is troubling you to get at and transform, moving towards a productive satisfying life. I'm good at getting at the potential, power, genius, and strength which lies within, surfacing creativity, health, and well being. Usually, when one discovers their potential it is like dropping a pebble in the calm lake, rippling goodness for all around them.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
