I therefore integrate psychoanalytic treatment within and alongside ERP, to foster deeper and more lasting change than ERP alone can offer.
I specialize in Rumination-Focused ERP for OCD. This approach to ERP focuses on treating compulsive rumination, and provides a highly systematic yet gentler approach to exposure therapy. RF-ERP can be helpful to patients who have not made significant progress in other types of treatment, including individuals with Pure O or Sensorimotor OCD.

Let's get right to it: your life isn't going the way you want it to and you don't know where to start. You feel misunderstood, frustrated and overwhelmed much of the time. You try to communicate and set boundaries with people but nothing seems to work. You imagine more peaceful interactions and long for connection but find yourself feeling lonely and isolated. You don't have to live like this any longer. You can learn how to stand up for yourself, set limits with others, take care of yourself, solve problems and find peace.

Some people find themselves feeling stuck with certain thoughts and feelings. Others find themselves repeating behaviors that lead to unproductive and problematic situations in their life. Therapy is a process where these concerns can be discussed and worked through from a nonjudgmental standpoint. My therapeutic approach is to assist you in reaching your personal or relationship goals with more effective ways of being. The adolescents and adults I work with are understood as individuals that have their own unique attitudes, beliefs, and experiences.

Psychotherapy is simply a conversation designed to help you understand yourself more completely. Rather than providing answers, it helps you identify what is interfering with your ability to live in a satisfying way. I have helped people sufferring from depression, anxiety, and relationship problems - even when previous attempts at treatment have failed. Meaningful change is possible in an environment of mutual respect and safety, where you can tell your own story at your own pace. I work with both individuals and couples.

I believe that each individual frames their life from their experiences. Such experiences can cause distress, sometimes making life unbearable. I invite clients in the direction of the unconscious mental process to create healing and promote change. With wholeheartedness and non-judgemental support, I offer a deep journey in search of keys to unveil the answers that lie within. I help clients to find insight, and cope with the underlying causes of emotional and psychological symptoms. I suppose that it is through telling one's unique story, that one can re-write it.

I seek to help people find hope and light in dark times. I love working within youth, young adults, and families to help mend concerns and disconnects within important relationships because relationships are a foundation of life. In addition to relationships I love working one-on-one to help clients find new ways to heal and cope with whatever their life situations may be: mental illness, life changes, grief, loss, transitions, and any other obstacle that is ever present in life today. Each person has their own story and I am humbled to help clients navigate theirs.

I draw from various therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, experiential, mindfulness-based, as well as body-centered therapies.
Therapy is a space that should welcome the full depth of our human experience, rather than just focusing on a collection of symptoms. I offer a space for you to explore and better understand the whole spectrum of your experience: ranging from your greatest strengths and joys to your greatest challenges and pains. From a place of safety and warmth, we can begin to meet whatever it is that needs to be said, felt, expressed, or understood within you.

My background includes a degree in social work from NYU, a certificate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and training for maternal and reproductive mental health.
My goal is to help you bridge the gap between the person you are now, and the person you want to be. My collaborative approach with individuals and couples strives to understand where we come from, why we do what we do, where we are going, and how we can get there. Through our work together, we can explore what gives you a personal sense of meaning and purpose in the world, and how you can make lasting change in your life.

Using psychoanalytic couples theory, Gottman and Pragmatic/Experiential (neurobiology).
Therapy with your partner will explore the essential aspects of being in a relationship. If you are experiencing couples’ burnout or any other difficult situation with your partner, just know that in relationships there are times that are difficult and challenging which can open up feelings of numbness, grief, anger, helplessness, sadness and intense stress. I will help you create a sense of understanding and to learn how to talk and be with each other in a different way. To be able to see and listen and enjoy each other again. At this time I am only seeing couples, couples on the brink of divorce and families with adult children.

I've been a psychotherapist for over 40 years. What I have found is the most powerfull tool is the relationships I develop with my clients which are often deeply meaningful, based on understanding the depth of the person, often extending to the inclusion of spiritual experience. I am a fully trained marriage and family therapist, and I have graduated from the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Institute as a certified Psychoanalyst. The American Psychoanalytic Institute has awarded me the status of a Training and Supervising Analyst, the highest level of certification awarded. I want to help people find their own sense of truth.

I utilize a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approach in a talk-therapy setting.
From an early age we learn ways of being from the people in our lives and from our circumstances. My approach to therapy is to honor where you’ve been, while helping you move toward growth that starts with your present conditions and perspectives. We often feel like silencing what troubles us is less painful– I join with clients to access this part of ourselves gently and with great care. I see the therapeutic relationship as a place to practice new dynamics and change past patterns of behavior that no longer serve us. Essential to my philosophy is that individuals are impacted by larger, systemic forces.

My primary mode of helping entails utilizing a psychoanalytic and relational framework.
Same sh#t different day? You want to feel better and your life to be better. I want that for you, too. Sometimes we know exactly what is happening and why things are as they are. Other times, it may seem more mysterious, or outside of our awareness. Understanding yourself will help to put you in the driver's seat of your own life so you can move in the direction you'd like to be going. It is both courageous and intensely rewarding to peer deeply, inquisitively at one's own self. This is what you require to grow, move forward and thrive in your life. I can help you to gain self-compassion, understanding, growth and acceptance.

People come to therapy for many reasons. In the first few sessions, I want to get to know you--what you are struggling with, your hopes and fears for the future, what seems to be getting in the way, what strengths and assets you bring. Together, we arrive at a plan, identifying your goals, sources of distress, and how best to work toward symptom relief and greater satisfaction with life and relationships. My approach integrates several treatment modalities, including psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based therapies, life-span developmental approaches, attachment theory, family and couples therapy.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
