You’ve accomplished so much. You have a fulfilling career, good friends, a comfortable income and lovely home. By all appearances things are great, and you feel completely in control in most areas of your life. But relationships are a different story.. they either don't stick or never take off, and they all seem to follow the same pattern - the initial hope and excitement of seeing someone new gives way to doubt, and once you get that sinking feeling, it all unravels from there. You see friends and coworkers getting married and starting families and wonder why it’s so easy for them. "What's wrong with me?"

Accepting new clients- Life is hard. Most of us want to think that it gets easier but that only occurs when our skills (emotional, mental, physical, spiritual) improve. Therapy is the perfect place to learn and practice new skills while getting the encouragement to make it through life's toughest moments. And I am ready for you. I work with all clients and specialize in the Black/Brown communities, LGBTQ population, couples, and adolescents. I value intersectionality, solutions-focused work, and holistic practices.

My ideal client may need help with confidence, relationships, or learning who they are. They aim to reduce symptoms of clinical diagnoses and work with me to see progress in their lives. This client would want to learn more about themselves and improve their relationships with others and with themselves. They would be a motivated and insightful client who attends sessions regularly and comes prepared with topics to discuss. I would help this client by listening to them and their thoughts, offering support, and building a rapport with them.

If you are looking for a calming, friendly, and nonjudgemental listening ear, then we may be a great fit. My clients learn how their past experiences affect their current mindsets and actions, how to communicate their needs effectively, and how to embrace their emotions as they display self-love. I take into consideration the cultural background and acknowledge that therapy can be like walking into a dark room but we can turn on the light together.

Ideally, I'd treat clients with a trauma history. Someone with a mixture of short and long term trauma. My ideal client is eager to learn and wants to find a way to become their own safe space. Someone who wants to learn how to set and maintain healthy boundaries, find out their triggers, and treat themselves with patience.

I am currently accepting clients for teletherapy. I believe people enter psychotherapy because the ways they have been managing their pain are no longer working, they have become disconnected from their true sense of self, and no longer feel authentic. My goal is to help you to claim a deeper level of self-understanding, genuine intimacy with others, and a sense of purpose and agency in life. Change can be difficult, simply because we fear the unknown. A relationship with a therapist can provide a place of acceptance and safety from which to explore new ways of thinking and behaving.

I use dynamic, relational, and psychoanalytic approaches with individuals and couples.
Working with clients at first as a lawyer, and now as an analytically-trained therapist, I listen, and work with you to identify problems and create possible solutions. Listening in a neutral, nonjudgmental way, I offer a safe, confidential virtual space for us to explore and understand your relationships with others at work, at school and at home. Focusing on your concerns, we as a team develop a working partnership and build on your strengths to increase your understanding and acceptance of yourself while exploring new possibilities. One of my goals is for you to "graduate" and potentially become your own therapist.

No matter your past or present, your haves or have nots, life can be difficult. I believe that people want and need to be understood – to feel validated and acknowledged in the midst of their troubles. Without these moments of understanding, life can feel mundane, lonely, or deeply confusing. At the most troubling times when stress, depression, or relationships overwhelm, change can seem impossible. Yet change is made possible through a trusting therapeutic relationship and a careful understanding of oneself and others.

If you are suffering with depression, looking to learn how to manage your anxiety, or seeking greater satisfaction in your relationship with others; I can help. Perhaps you are trying to adjust to a major life transition such as the death of a loved one, or a divorce. Or, maybe you are in a dating relationship or marriage that is not as satisfying as it once was. Deepening your understanding of old, unhelpful patterns that are causing you to be depressed, anxious, or just plain dissatisfied with your life, is a good place to start. With new, more helpful ways of understanding yourself, comes the freedom to make different choices.

Whether you're going through a life transition, experiencing something difficult (externally or internally), or want someone you can bounce thoughts, feelings, and ideas off of, I'm here for it. When we take the intentional time to look at how whatever is going on for you is impacting your mental, emotional, physical, and relational health, and how that might be preventing you from reaching your goals, we can not only gain a lot from the therapy process, but also enjoy it. We can work together to talk it through, break down barriers, generate insight, and create positive change in a supportive environment.

You may be a highly educated and successful person who struggles with perfectionism, work-life balance or impostor syndrome (doubting your accomplishments; fearing being seen as a fraud). You may be a person of color, a child of immigrants or someone who is geographically separated from your family and other support systems. I have had significant experience helping individuals like yourself, experiencing both personal and work-related stress. I work to understand your story, and together we develop a plan to address the goals that you have for improving your quality of life.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
