Welcome to my psychoanalytic practice for children, adolescents, and adults. Our minds have a huge influence on how we think and feel each day; slowing down and noticing subtle aspects of ourselves with a trained analyst can provide much needed integration of powerful emotions that have not yet had a voice for expression. People can articulate emotions without feeling them, experience emotions in the body, can't find words, and unthinkingly go into action never quite feeling satisfied. Psychoanalytic work can involve the experience of play, and with kids, play will be the work. Integrating feelings and thoughts vitalizes human life.

In addition to psychotherapy, I offer clinical consultation in relational psychoanalytic and eating disorders treatment.
My experience is that many challenges we encounter are based on habits/patterns, which at one point may have felt helpful and necessary. Frequently, these ways of feeling and behaving are automatic, not within conscious awareness and not fully understood. My role is to facilitate curiosity of these repetitive cycles and work through the obstacles that interfere with leading the fullest life one desires. Part of therapy is co creating a narrative and ultimately becoming the author of one’s story. A trusting, collaborative therapeutic relationship is the foundation to begin this exploration. A dose of humor can help in the process.

I draw from many theoretical orientations but I have a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic bent.
Struggling through emotional difficulties can feel overwhelming. Friends and family may not have the tools to help you get your life back on track. Coming to therapy is a tremendous step to facilitate change. I provide an empathic and understanding environment to help clients work through their problems. I believe that a genuine and real connection between therapist and client is a key component of the therapeutic process. My belief is that in order to change oneself, a fuller understanding of oneself must occur. Working together, we can explore issues and meet your counseling needs.

I draw from narrative, postmodern, and cognitive theories, but my foundation is primarily psychoanalytic: this means that I ask my clients to discuss whatever’s on their mind, even if it seems insignificant.
You may be feeling lost, stuck, or that everything is wrong. Perhaps anxiety or anger or grief are overwhelming you, and you don’t know what to do. Problems like these don’t have easy solutions, but our work together can help; therapy can reshape how we think about ourselves, our lives, and our worlds, and it can make room for radically new parts of ourselves to emerge after years of waiting. In my work, every case is different. I attend closely to what makes you unique—your passions, fears, desires, and history—and I strive to make room for new insights and perspectives.

I am an author, artist, and lecturer in the international psychoanalytic community.
Do you feel alone in intimate relationships, repeating destructive patterns you would like to change? Are you feeling cut off from your creativity or struggling to find meaningful direction in life? Are you successful in the world but sense something deeper is missing? My focus is helping you improve your quality of life through connecting with inner strengths, reclaiming parts of yourself that have been left behind. I work with couples and professionals - often in life and career transitions, frequently in tech, law, medicine, and mental heath. Some are musicians, artists and writers, looking for deeper connection.

My approach is psychoanalytic in nature.
I will do my best to listen carefully and closely, and speak back in ways that enhance your curiosity. In this collaboration, you will be able to discover more of who you are both to yourself, and to other people. You will find in me someone who respects all parts of you and challenges you. I understand that therapy is not easy, and will do my best to make you feel understood throughout the process.

Strongly influenced by American psychologist Carl Rogers, I believe each human being has a unique and individual definition of what it means to live a life they love. In order to attain this, like Rogers, I believe people need acceptance, genuineness and empathy. My approach to therapy aims to help you live a life you love by weaving in a number of modalities including DBT, ACT, CBT, IFS, and mindfulness. My methodology is grounded in psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, psychoanalytic theory, trauma-informed psychotherapy, and a relationship-centered approach to therapy.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
