Hi there! My name is Dr. Ana Alicia Potthast, DSW, LCSW, LCDC. I have a passion for mental health care and substance abuse treatment, and I have extensive experience and training in behavioral health, diagnostics, addiction, co-occurring disorders, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, domestic violence, sexual abuse and assault, maternity and fertility issues, grief and loss, hoarding, family dynamics and conflict, marital issues, sexual orientation and gender identification and expression, adjustment issues, stages in life, and many other situations that bring a client to seek counseling.

There are no ideal clients that I am able to describe because all clients are all different. I don't treat one client the same as I treat the next, but all clients need a different treatment but will always receive the same genuine approach. Your goals and treatment goals can only work with the transcribing of the clients needs and the needs of the clients; which are my main focus.

I have been a licensed clinician since 1988. I started working with families in 1984. I have worked with clients as young as two and as mature as their nineties. Previous work-related experience includes working at a residential treatment center, youth shelter, juvenile detention center, chemical dependency unit, adolescent and adult in-patient hospital, Employee Assistance Program, crisis intervention, in-take assessments, and intensive out-patient programming. Over the past two decades, I have served individuals, couples, families, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. I am a certified and approved DOT Substance Abuse Professional.

The ideal client is a one who participates in therapy with a strong desire to learn and create personal, and interpersonal growth. One that shows courage in reaching out for help, and acknowledging their imperfections as true strengths. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, relational challenges, interpersonal challenges, grief and loss, anger, substance use/abuse, or simply wishing to understand their own process better.
