My strengths are helping individuals work through anxiety, depression, panic, trauma, grief, and sleep problems. I’m also experienced treating those with self-esteem concerns. I believe each person is already whole and perfect just as they are, the expert on their own life, with the ability to make appropriate changes. I have 9 years of experience working as a therapist in a college counseling center and 2 years in a speciality clinic within a hospital setting.

I strive to provide a compassionate, collaborative, and safe environment for children, adolescent and young adults to receive evidence-based treatments for anxiety, OCD and related disorders. In the past decade, I have gained experience in assessing and treating Charleston area youth, while providing support to their families and caregivers.

Dr. McGinnis’ practice focuses on increasing connection with one’s inner self through exploring and processing difficult emotions, experiences, and beliefs. Her goal is to help individuals work through difficulties they face in order to reduce unnecessary suffering and create a life worth living. Dr. McGinnis believes therapy is a powerful, complex, interpersonal process and works with individuals on acceptance of the self and one’s life as it is in order to create change and move towards a life that provides meaning, fulfillment, and sense of purpose. She is passionate about her work and inspired by her clients' stories of healing.

Kristen Shealy is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) treating children ages 6+, teens, and adults. She specializes in exposure to trauma, grief and loss, depression, stress, and adjustment issues. She has experience working with adolescents engaging in risky activities and their caregivers. Kristen graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill (B.A. Psychology), and obtained her Masters of Education (Ed.M.) in Risk and Prevention, and Certificate of Advanced Study in Counseling (C.A.S.) from Harvard University. Kristen has experience working with individuals from various backgrounds, and provides therapy in English and Spanish.

Susan Jillson is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) who has 7 years of experience in the mental health field. Susan has always had a passion for serving others and decided to return to school after having children of her own to pursue a Master of Social Work (MSW). After graduating from Fordham University, she became a counselor in a residential program where she worked with clients who were struggling with a myriad of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance abuse.

Along with the clinical team at Charleston DBT Associates, I offer comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for both adult and adolescent clients. DBT brings together Eastern Mindfulness techniques and Western clinical principles to create behavioral change in a warm therapeutic environment. DBT is the transaction between Zen contemplative practice and behavior therapy, held together with a dialectical philosophy. This dialectical stance works to find what is adaptive in even the most maladaptive behaviors, to assist clients in creating the emotional and behavioral changes needed to build a life worth living.
