My personal motto is "No mud. No lotus." To me, this means, without suffering there cannot be beauty. My entire life I have been fascinated with resilience- the ability to overcome. What makes people stronger when they they have faced so much adversity? I started my career focused on how to help people become more resilient, and along the way I have learned so much, not just about overcoming obstacles, but also about building up strengths.

Now accepting new clients! My sessions are all virtual, and I work with clients throughout the state of Michigan. For a productive experience in therapy, I feel it’s very important for a client to find a therapist whose approach is right for them. My approach to therapy is client-centered. I listen without judgement and help guide you toward finding the answers that are already inside of you. My goal is to make you feel safe and comfortable while empowering you to make progress toward your goals.

My name is Jessica, and I'm hoping you will let me help you work through “every day” challenges to improve your relationships and daily functioning. I will work to provide an environment in which together you and I can work through your past and present struggles, coping mechanisms, and experiences in order to better understand your needs and ultimately yourself. This will help you to improve communication of your needs and thus your relationship(s) with others. As your counselor, I have experience working with individuals who are grieving the loss of loved ones ranging from miscarriage, child loss, partner, and animal companions, and the challenges accompanying caring for a parent or loved one until their passing.

As a counselor, I've had the privilege of walking with hundreds of people through heavy and often overwhelming seasons in their lives. One of the many things I've learned is that your past does not need to define your future. Restored health, hope, and purpose can be your reality.

I take a holistic whole health approach to help those looking to find balance and stability within many areas of their lives including family, relationships, careers, school, identity, self-worth, and mental health symptom management. I practice with a solution focused outlook that is person centered on making goals and developing skills specific to every unique client. My specialties include treating mood disorders, anxiety, trauma related symptoms, intimacy issues, self-esteem, and self-acceptance.

I love the work that I do in helping people learn how to find a fresh perspective on where they are, where they want to go, and how to get there. My gift is in my ability to easily connect with people and I create an environment where we work together to get results. In addition to face-to-face counseling, I am also a certified Life Coach and Tele-Counselor which means that we can work by phone/web, if needed. I have been practicing for over 20 years working with adults, couples, families and adolescents. I opened up Grace Counseling Professionals in an effort to bring counselors together to make a difference in our community.

Traverse Health Clinic provides behavioral health services to adults and adolescents ages 12 and up, even if you haven't established primary care with one of our medical providers. Our behavioral health services are provided by licensed therapists who are trained and qualified to help patients experiencing life stressors or mental health issues. Therapists are able to assist individuals in learning constructive ways to handle problems that interfere with everyday life. Services are usually time-limited and focused on specific goals that you, the patient, have identified.

My passion is helping people discover the goodness, strength, and wisdom that is already within them, helping them to grow those strengths so that they can ultimately “be their own therapist.” I have a special interest and focus on compulsive eating, emotional eating, and binge eating using evidence-based mindfulness approaches, such as DBT and Compassion-Focused Therapy. I seek to offer a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental space where we can collaboratively explore your needs and goals. We will walk this journey together!

It is my belief that much of our pain and suffering comes from struggles within interpersonal relationships. Because of this, therapy can be an incredibly powerful tool to experience a different kind of relationship; one that is full of compassion instead of judgment, support instead of contempt, designed to empower instead of disenfranchise. I specialize in trauma, phase of life concerns, anxiety, and depression. It is important to me that we fit as a team, and I encourage conversations that improve safety and trust within our relationship.
