Lela is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 6 years of experience. She is passionate and eager to help children, adolescents, and adults overcome the challenges of life. Lela specializes in depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, relationship issues, grief and loss, major life transitions, and harm reduction.

I provide an eclectic approach, primarily utilizing behavioral, humanistic, psycho-spiritual, and inner child modalities – with a specialization in complex trauma, shadow work, generational patterns, and the journey to authenticity. My practice is person-centered, meaning that I’m a guide in your exploration of self – I may be nudging and pointing things out, but you, as the client, are ultimately leading where we go. My goal is to enrich and point out the positive traits that you already possess, and offer acknowledgment into aspects of yourself or your circumstances that you maybe haven’t seen yet.

I am a licensed psychologist and the clinical director of Sollars and Associates Integrative Counseling and Psychological Services. I have been providing counseling and psychotherapy for over 30 years in the Metro Detroit area and our group practice spans across the state of Michigan. With support, encouragement and expert insight many people begin to feel better after their first session.

The goal for the clients at Higher Heights Counseling are that he or she identify the issues, develop a plan of action, and then implement that plan. Counseling comes from many different theoretical orientations. I believe that the client or clients have the solutions to their dilemmas within their self. We have the freedom to choose what directions our life takes and the responsibility to take control of that freedom. Therefore, the counselor does not have the "answers" to the client's "problem" but in a facilitator of the process that helps the client take responsibility and action and come to a resolution.

I hold a Master’s degree in Psychology with over 18 years of experience in the field of Mental Health and is a Board-Certified Hypnotherapist. My training in Hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Neuro-Emotional Technique and Life Coaching, has further afforded me the opportunity to incorporate therapy on both the conscious and subconscious levels. I have customized an extremely dynamic emotional detox program which has resulted in unprecedented successes for clients, at significantly faster rates than traditional therapy alone and has left clients raving.

Art has a way of quickly bringing issues from the unconscious into the conscious realm where they can be processed verbally or just witnessed. Art is wonderful for increasing tolerance of frustration, delay of gratification and learning to verbalize emotional states. I use all of the Expressive Arts to create individually tailored experientials to promote increased understanding and growth with my clients.

I specialize in life transitions, and everything that comes with them, throughout childhood, adolescents, young adulthood, and adulthood. This includes depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and loss, anger, and substance misuse. I also have a breadth of experience working with individuals with disabilities. I provide individual and family therapy. I see clients aged 5 and up.

I don't believe in having an "ideal client," but rather subscribe to Irvin Yalom's idea that the client/clinician relationship is one of "fellow travelers." Therefore, I view it as my responsibility to meet the client where they are in order to begin a journey in which their needs and strengths indicate the direction of therapy. I create a space in which my diverse client-base is inspired to be as truthful and expressive as possible and in which we can begin to pay attention to the client's deepest voice. Moving toward feeling and through repression is crucial to my work, and I believe lasting growth begins here.

Most of my most current clients are adolescents and young adults wanting to uderstand why they are not satisfied with their lives. With the increased stress of the pandemic and economic insecurities today, everything is magnified and more difficult. What most clients want is to feel what they believe was normal again.
