My name is Shamar Young a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Our Community Counseling, LLC. As a native of Bridgeport, CT, I am very familiar with the needs of urban youth populations and was confronted as a teen with life's decisions and consequences. I hold a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Fordham University in NYC with a concentration in Client-Centered Management. Our Community Counseling is invested in addressing the social-emotional needs of youths. adults and families in an effort to equip individuals with the tools they need to successfully navigate life and conquer every obstacle.

For many of us, growing up was harsh and even traumatic, and we naturally formed a blueprint for how to live and survive. As life goes on, that blueprint can feel constraining, and our unhealed core experiences may leave us with pain and shame. Sometimes life brings difficult crossroads and transitions with shock, pain, and loss. At other times, we may feel confused and disconnected from our best selves and experience our lives and feelings through a muted lens. Peace, balance, love, and joy seem out of reach.

I am a clinical psychologist who provides comprehensive psychological assessment (also known as psychological testing) for children, adolescents, and college-aged adults. Evaluations can identify learning problems, giftedness, intellectual disability, ADHD, executive functioning deficits, behavioral problems, mood and anxiety disorders, and other issues. Testing is individualized to meet your specific needs. A detailed written summary of findings with recommendations for school, treatment, and home is provided.
