Although I am very comfortable in almost any clinical situation, at this stage of my career I tend to spend most of my time with adults of all ages having a wide variety of issues. Most particularly I work with those struggling with addictions ( both classic and process), anxiety, depression, marital and other relationship difficulties, chronic emotional and behavioral problems, and issues attendant to stage of life transitions.

Back in the 1980s, Penn & Teller used to perform a trick in which the audience would get to partially see the structure behind their magic. Once you know how a trick occurs, you are no longer surprised or affected by its presence and interaction the same way. This is how I view and interpret the changes that occur in the therapy process: we get a glimpse, an entrance, an understanding into the behaviors that hurt us, the words that weaken us, and the relationship dynamics that create specific repetitive reactions in us.

I am a Licensed Counseling Psychologist with over 20 years of clinical experience in both the US and Jamaica. Some of the experiences include working with clients who present with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders and conduct disorders. Along with my clinical work, I spent 17 years teaching college students and see myself as both a clinician and teacher with my clients. Dr. Tom was born in Israel and raised in florida in a family with unique values, which led her to a genuine appreciation for culture and individuality. Growing up with a Hebrew name that was frequently misunderstood in a primarily English-speaking society fostered cultural awareness from a very young age. However, this adversity combined with pride for her identity allowed her to recognize and embrace others’ diversity. The dichotomy of growing up in a suburban American society with certain outlooks, and then coming home to differing cultural perspectives helped her develop an expanded range of vision and acceptance of others.

As a licensed psychologist, I provide therapy to children, adolescents, and adults. I have experience working with a range of populations, including but not limited to ADHD, disruptive behavior disorders, learning disorders, anxiety, selective mutism, depression, anger, stress, divorce, social difficulties, pica, and autism spectrum disorders.
