Accepting new clients! My name is Kalli Kembel, LSWAIC. I am a generalist practitioner trained in a variety of evidence-based approaches to work with individuals and families. I operate from a humanistic perspective, which is client-centered and focuses on strengths, while empowering clients to overcome obstacles and become their favorite version of themselves. I believe it is my role to assist clients in building resilience, strengthening relationships, developing self-awareness and enhancing acceptance of self. I also aid clients in developing skills for mindfulness, distress tolerance and emotional regulation.

I believe that we all have things in life that we need help dealing with or working through. As a counselor I provide a safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental place for people to get the help they are seeking. I use several therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, somatic experiencing and emotional focused therapy to name a few. When working with couples I use the Gottman marriage approach as well as the therapies listed above. I may explore with the client their past and present in order to promote self-discovery/awareness that will assist them with the outcome they desire.

My approach is supportive, collaborative, and often emphasizes development of skills and enhancement of already-present skills (e.g., coping, conflict resolution, parenting). I consider humor an essential ingredient! I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, in a variety of settings such as outpatient, inpatient, and residential, and have prior experience in CPS and adoption services.

I am licensed in both Oregon and Washington and have worked in the field of mental health for over 35 years. My experience ranges from treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and self-esteem issues to more severe and persistent mental health conditions. I have extensive experience treating personality disorders and enjoy working with anyone who is committed to change in their lives. Additionally, I have worked with families of those coping with mental health issues and can assist in providing them with support and education about mental health, as well as resources available to their family.

I work with clients from age 12 to age 65. I prefer to work with one client at a time, but see two clients occasionally (parent/child or partners). I can accommodate three, but I am not a family therapist. I am a good listener, and am direct with questions.
