I feel lost. No one understands me. Why am I so scared sometimes? Why am I sometimes not able to focus? Are you struggling with acceptance, bullies, disrespect, or discrimination because you identify as LBGTIQ+? Finding yourself in a meaningful and impactful way… Who are you? Is your child is uncontrollable… or too withdrawn…? Does your teen need help? Do they seem depressed, anxious, or experiencing abnormal behavior?

Through my counseling practice, I desire to empower others to achieve a balanced state of wellbeing, discover their self-worth, reach their fullest potential, and live joyfully. I provide a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space for my client’s voice to be heard. Past trauma and current life transitions can be painful and difficult; however, I believe that each of us has the ability to heal and grow stronger. Counseling is a tool that helps us recognize harmful beliefs and behavior patterns, learn new skills with which to resolve problems, and facilitate lasting positive change in our lives.

The ideal client is one that is willing to work in session and practice out of session. I work best with clients that are willing to be honest and raw with me. I respect someone that can voice their truest thoughts/feelings/and behaviors because I will be equally direct with my identification of distortions in their thoughts and actions. The greatest acceptance of ourselves can only be achieved with an honest look inward. This honesty allows us see what strengths we desire to build and what needs we can reduce. With this direct, loving, and accepting approach, the counseling process can be maximized in its efficacy.

I offer evidence-based and customized treatment for anxiety, OCD, chronic illness, and pregnancy and postpartum concerns including loss, PPD, PPA, birth trauma, and PPOCD.
You're a high-achieving professional or mom who's getting bogged down by your tendency to over-think things. You realize your thoughts are irrational, but can’t get them out of your head. I help moms who are overwhelmed, numb, disconnected, struggling to juggle everything (aka supermom syndrome), or more irritable with others. You feel afraid, guilty, alone, and no longer recognize yourself. You may be having scary thoughts about your baby and are afraid to tell anyone. Others have no clue you're struggling in this way and you're just trying to keep it together.

When we fall into the pits of depression, anxiety, confusion, self-doubt, ruminations and bad memories...we don't feel whole. The day-to-day can feel impossible and overwhelming, let alone handling what is happening deep inside. Many of my clients struggle with current-day consequences of many years of trauma, which can show up in a number of different ways- disordered eating and eating disorders, complex PTSD, and postpartum issues.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
