To me, life is like a river, sometimes peaceful and gently flowing and at other times unexpectedly rough, with rapids and unforeseen obstacles. It is my honor to sit with you in the hard, the unknown, and the unexpected, providing a calm and safe space for you to be heard. We can work together to help you discover and understand emotions unfamiliar or even unknown, navigate decisions yet to be made, and integrate your past with your present. Together, we can help you understand how stories of who you were told you were and who you have told yourself you are in the past do not have to define who you are today.

Does your relationship turn you into a wild animal? Like sometimes it’s as if you and your partner are fighting over a hyena carcass when really you’re discussing basic domestic issues? You are not crazy and you’re not alone. We get most triggered by our intimate relationships and when we do, it becomes harder to repair disconnection and access love. It also becomes most harder to deal with the ups and downs that life throws at you. Learn to fight better and you can fight the world together instead of spending all your time battling at home.

My ideal client is someone who is committed to their personal growth and development, and who recognizes that seeking support is a sign of strength. They are open to exploring their thoughts and emotions in a safe and non-judgmental space, and are willing to engage in the therapeutic process. They want to feel heard and understood, to gain insight into their patterns of thinking and behavior, and develop strategies to manage their symptoms. Their goals include reducing symptoms, improving their relationships, building resilience, increasing their sense of self-worth, or developing a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment in life.

I specialize in couple's therapy using the most current techniques in relationship counseling. I believe that many issues couples face, issues that often lead to relationship breakup, are normal, understandable and treatable through therapy. After years as a therapist, I have found a method for couples counseling, EFT(Emotionally Focused Therapy), that systematically addresses deep relationship issues and empowers profound and lasting change. I have been married for 40 years, have four children, value family as a stable base and would not be where I am today without the support of professional marriage counseling. I believe in it!

Life certainly has its ups and downs and I am a firm believer in getting the support that best suits you. Therapy is for anyone who would like to feel better, experience more fulfillment, have more clarity, overcome obstacles, and grow stronger & wiser. I believe we can all benefit from taking the time to better ourselves, yet this process is different for each client. For some it might mean putting proven strategies in place to accomplish goals. For others it might include healing from past traumas in order to move past what is holding them back. Developing effective coping skills is at the foundation of it all.

I believe that human beings have a level of resiliency that is truly amazing. At times, individuals can need some assistance with realizing this and being able to tap into their own strength. I am passionate about therapy because it allows a person to be in a safe space to develop insights and experience healing. The therapeutic process is one that should be open, trusting, and enlightening. My goal is to work side by side with clients to help them tap into their inner strength, in order to enhance their overall well-being.

There’s no greater freedom than living in your true self, a self authentically and lovingly connected to others. It’s how we are built. It’s how our children are built. Living the kind of balance many of us aspire to looks a heck of lot easier in print than it is in action. It takes work to integrate it all, but it is so worth it. I bring 14 years of doctoral + post-doctoral level training and 27 years of experience to best individualize the care. In Aspen, convenient therapy, consult and fun Developmental Play sessions. From California/Colorado, you may establish online adult/adolescent therapy that keep up with you on the go.

I specialize in eating disorder recovery, addictions, ADHD, anxiety, prenatal/postpartum support, relationship struggles, divorce, healing shame and trauma recovery.
Cultivating joy and healthy habits requires creating a consistent space to practice and learn new ways of being. Did you know your mind is more wired to produce anxiety and depression than joy? There is nothing wrong with you! You just didn't learn the skills that generate more joy, calm and acceptance; this is what leads to long-term fulfillment and happiness. Burnout, abandoning your dreams, anxiety, overwhelm, feeling lost, an extra glass of wine-all can lead to a vicious cycle of not feeling good. I can help you break that cycle. Integrating the body, breath practices, and neuroscience into therapy helps bring lasting changes.

I work with a variety of mental health issues and have advanced training and a passion for working with perinatal and postpartum mothers and our first responder community.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, confused, anxious, sad, alone, lost, irritable, emotionally "stuck" or just plain exhausted? Perhaps you have recent or past trauma and have painful memories that seem to have a hold on you, and prevent you from being able to be fully present in your life. Maybe you are struggling with developing or maintaining healthy relationships, or are feeling like your life is unraveling, unfulfilling or unbalanced, with little to no time to take care of yourself. If you are experiencing any of the above, or are seeking self-growth, self-understanding, healing, or positive change, please reach out to me today.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
