I also work with many clients specifically related to reproductive and maternal mental health including: parenting, pregnancy, postpartum issues, loss/trauma, infertility and menopausal transition.
I believe that life is a process of becoming. With the passing of time, we all change and so our needs and wants within ourselves and within our relationships also change. Are you eager for positive change that improves your relationships with others and allows for new understanding and compassion for yourself? Increased awareness and clarity of unconscious patterns can provide opportunities to heal old wounds and create new paths and shifts towards fulfillment. I encourage prospective clients to give me a call or email to ask questions that might help you determine if my approach is a good fit for your current needs.

A specific area of my expertise includes supporting women through the prenatal, postpartum and motherhood periods.
As a dedicated therapist, I focus on supporting women and mothers through a safe, non-judgmental space. My therapy style is supportive, compassionate, and tailored to fit your individual needs. My goal is to understand your values, perspectives, and experiences and offer therapy that meets you where you are and guides you to where you want to be. I am a mental health advocate who believes therapy isn’t about fixing people who are broken; it’s about healing from hurt, challenging beliefs that no longer serve us, and building new perspectives. Therapy is a gateway to prioritizing yourself, your relationships, and your overall health.

I have a particular passion for working with the perinatal and postpartum population, busy/overwhelmed women, and those experiencing grief.
Being a human is tough, isn’t it? You might be feeling lost, hurt, frustrated, sad, or anxious. You may be experiencing a life transition, loss of a loved one, low self-esteem, or postpartum difficulties. Or, you might not be entirely sure what led you to seek therapy—you just know you want to feel better. Having the courage to turn toward your pain and start healing is a remarkable step in embracing the messiness of life and finding your peace within it.

My interests include: anxiety & depression (including perinatal/postpartum), life transitions, stress management, career issues, work/life balance, relationship concerns, self-esteem, self-care, women's issues, & cultural/diversity factors.
My love of therapy is rooted in the opportunity to witness and facilitate change. Perhaps you already know what in your life you'd like to change. Perhaps you are simply aware that you're not where you would like to be. Or perhaps you've had an experience you'd like to understand and get some clarity around. Therapy is a powerful and important pathway to achieving change, improving insight, and living a happier, more fulfilling, meaningful life.

Imagine if you had the confidence to show up as your authentic self. Or if your teenage daughter could overcome insecurity to be the person she genuinely wants to be. Maybe you are fed up with questioning who you are and wondering how to embody the multiple identities and roles you align with. You have been taught to stifle your confidence, take up less space, and conform to the values and behaviors of everyone around you. You’re ready to unpack and overcome these challenges. You want to set attainable goals for yourself. Most of all you are ready to reconnect with who you are.

Do you lie awake at night, sheets twisting beneath you, worst-case scenarios running through your head? On social media, you’re bombarded with horrific news of terrorist attacks, plane crashes, mass shootings. The unremarkable posts hurt just as much. Captions like “My mom is the best! I’d be lost without her!” make you clench up inside, heat coursing through your veins. People tell you to “Stay strong,” but they have no idea what you’ve been through. After experiencing trauma, nothing feels safe or certain. You want to curl up on the couch and push everything else away.

“I feel disconnected from my identity”... “I feel overwhelmed as a new parent”... “The guilt I feel for not doing it all is impacting my day to day”... “Being a new parent isn’t what I expected it to be”... If you are experiencing these feelings, know that there is hope and I would be happy to help you.

I work collaboratively with people to help them create the lives they want -- in their relationships, families, recreation and work. This process of exploration and discovery is inspiring and taps into hopes, dreams and imagination through story and re-connecting and remembering memories and experiences of connection and joy in their lives. Clients who benefit most from working with me are usually bright, creative and interested in freeing themselves from the constraints of family, social and cultural expectations that have become internalized and held as truths. This is a way of finding your way home ... to where your heart is.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
