I enjoy working with people in the perinatal period and early parenthood, as they adjust to the changes and challenges presented by the new additions to their family.
I create a space that feels safe, encouraging, and collaborative so that you can explore your life experiences and feel supported in moving toward a healthy and vibrant life. Therapy is a place to learn and try out new skills, such as managing difficult emotions or improving communication. Therapy is also a space in which people can feel deeply heard and connected, and I believe a strong relationship between a therapist and client can be profoundly helpful when going through a period of healing and growth.

As a therapist, I enjoy traveling alongside my clients to help them navigate the many complexities of transitional times. Pregnancy, motherhood, starting a new job or moving through divorce are significant stressors for people, even when the transition is one you have chosen. These times of intense change bring with them an opportunity for growth and for deepening our understanding of ourselves. I strive to foster a safe, nurturing, and non-judgmental environment for my clients to explore their unique lives, inclusive of births and deaths and joys and wounds. I believe that change can occur when clients feel truly accepted.

Maternal depression is the number one complication of pregnancy and childbirth, affecting approximately one million women in the US each year (one/six).
Did you know that women are 2-3 times more likely to be depressed than men and the reproductive years present the most challenges? A pregnant or postpartum woman who finds herself distressed, depressed and anxious often feels alone. You may feel ashamed, alienated, inadequate and guilty. You may wonder how you could feel this bad when you love your baby. These thoughts and feelings are symptoms. They are not a definition of who you are as a person, a woman, or a mother. You are not alone, this is not your fault. With treatment, you can feel better.

I specialize in working with queer and polyamorous individuals and relationships, as well as those navigating fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting.
It is in our nature to change and grow. Our relationship to our bodies, sexuality, gender, friendships, environment, community, romantic partnerships, and ways of thinking is constantly evolving and transforming. This is the ebb and flow of our lives. In order to embody and dream the future we desire, we need to be in relationship with where we come from: presencing individual, inherited, and cultural practices that have contributed to the context we are in today. As your therapist, I offer unconditional presence, curiosity, and capacity to support exploration, embodiment, and learning to tune to the body's wisdom and experience.

Hi! I'm Jenn. I specialize in Maternal Mental Health and in helping women navigate their 20's/30's. Many of my clients feel burdened by the expectations of others, overwhelmed by school/work/life balance or unsatisfied in relationships. Some wonder about the right time to start a family, others have experienced a challenging and emotional road trying to start their family. Mothers I work with tell me they feel they've lost themselves in caring for their growing family, they've lost their connection with those close to them, and often times their symptoms of Perinatal Depression or Anxiety are sucking the joy out of motherhood.

I specialize in trauma/PTSD, pregnancy/postpartum, identity shifts in motherhood and burn out/stress.
I am passionate about helping women to truly thrive and find meaning in life. Being a woman is hard and often comes with many expectations. There’s pressure to have a successful career and healthy relationships, to be a good mom, to look put together, to be physically/emotionally healthy... Many of the women I work with find themselves feeling stressed and overwhelmed to the point that their physical and mental health may suffer. Maybe this sounds like you. You want to look inward, find healing and regain a sense of control. You want to develop tools to manage your mental load and move out of survival mode. You want to hope again.

I'm passionate about perinatal mental health and supporting those on their fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting journeys.
You may have found that due to some recent life circumstance, you are feeling stressed, anxious, lonely, overwhelmed, or even ashamed. These are natural, human emotions, which can arise from a host of reasons including fertility challenges, reproductive loss, adjusting to parenthood, work-related stress, starting college, or relationship issues. It can feel isolating, and you deserve to be seen and understood. The good news is you don’t have to go through it alone, and you were never meant to.

I work with ARC Counseling and Wellness as a Psychological Associate. I enjoy bringing out the inner strength in people. Life happens and sometimes it dims our joy and makes us forget how strong we can be. Using various approaches, I assist people with finding hope and getting that strength back to overcome any challenges that may come their way and to have a higher quality of life. I treat each person individually as there is no one size fits all approach, everyone will have different needs. My background has been in reproductive and newborn health, before I expanded into mental health.

I am certified in perinatal mental health, including anxiety, depression, OCD, birth and NICU trauma, and pregnancy and infant loss.
I work best with adults who hard on themselves, especially parents and people experiencing chronic pain. Do you often feel like you "should" be doing more or better? Do you feel guilty taking time for yourself? Do you have mixed feelings about parenthood or your relationship? Learning how to treat ourselves with compassion, accepting our negative feelings as well as the positive ones, and balancing caretaking for others with caring for ourselves is something many of us have to learn as adults. These are areas I help my clients with daily. You don't need to struggle with these issues alone.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
