The difficult thoughts and feelings that we hold deep within ourselves can negatively impact our mood, success, health, and overall happiness. In therapy, it takes bravery to unearth, examine, and learn from our life experiences in the therapeutic process. I help clients with many types of difficulties including anxiety, depression, work stress, culture and identity issues, adult ADHD, trauma, and social/relational problems with partners, friends, and family. Further, I have experience working with young and older adults, college students, high-level professionals, and executives.

I have a holistic & goal oriented approach in working with people, using mindfulness practices as well as, a relational focus.
The most rewarding thing I do is help people create more intimacy & vulnerability with themselves and others. One of my main focuses is helping clients embrace their relationships in healthier ways. I enjoy working with clients who have blocks that are keeping them from desired romantic relationships. Together we can address underlying stresses from trauma or current triggers and work through them, developing new coping skills along the way. I believe individuals understand their strengths and limitations best, and so my task will be in helping to deepen awareness.

My specializations include sex therapy, trauma, and grief and my therapeutic orientation is relational, feminist, and behavioral.
Life transitions often lead us to feel overwhelmed. While people close to us may be supportive, we may not always feel able to share with them our doubts and discomfort. Whether we’re holding our own or a loved one's sexuality or gender identity; navigating changes in our primary relationships, or reflecting on adverse experiences, having a safe space to reflect and process is invaluable. My practice serves adult clients who have struggled with anxiety, live with trauma or grief, or who experience the world as members or allies of the LGBTQ+ community. My approach is conversational, strengths-based, and results-oriented.

Relational support is often vital.
(Note: Formerly Wolf-Stanton Psychotherapy) We all experience some sort of pain, stress, trauma, or adversity in our personal lives and relationships. When our hearts ache, we search for ways to cope. These initial ways of coping often are adaptive in the short term. However, in the longer term, these same coping strategies may hinder further growth and healing. You and I can work together without judgment to dismantle painful experiences and cultivate a strong, empowered, and healthy core sense of self. You can realize your full potential and mobilize into healthy and constructive patterns of thought, behavior, and emotion.

I am trained in both psychodynamic/relational, as well as CBT approaches, and am highly adaptive to your changing needs and goals.
Feel like something is holding you back from your potential and goals or like you aren't able to access your true self? Are you craving connection, meaning and deepening? Life stressors or transitions may feel overwhelming, or you may be feeling stagnant/stuck and unable to attain goals. Life situations and circumstances that challenge you are often the most rewarding and formative; yet adapting and managing your thoughts, feelings and behaviors in collaboration with a seasoned therapist can often make the process more manageable and the outcomes more productive and in alignment with your values. Licensed in NY, NJ and VA

I help clients with anxiety/depression, trust and worthiness wounds, trauma, eating disorders, coaching, undesired relational dynamics, infidelity, life transitions, and identity development.
I work with clients who are struggling to get out of their own way and continue to repeat undesired patterns. These issues can present as continuing to choose emotionally unavailable partners ("toxic" partners), and yet get frustrated things are not working out and internalize it as something is wrong with them, or individuals/couples that have read every books they could find, yet the change they implement is often temporary and ultimately they return to old unhealthy behaviors and emotions. I help clients reach their goal of identifying and aligning with their values to live an empowered life filled with self-trust and love.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
