Neurofeedback combined with other evidence based tools can be the key to resetting your life.
Your life feels like an absolute $hit show most days but the show must go on. Your drug use has shattered all of your close relationships. You put on a fake smile, expensive perfume, your best cuff links, and you boss your way through the day. You may do the direct opposite; you get everyone out of the house, slink into bed, pull the covers over your head and pray for change because life just feels like it's too much to bear. It sucks and we get it. Let's work together to get your life feeling manageable again. We are a small, black owned practice with 2 generations and 35 years of combined experience. Bring your worst; we got you!

While talk therapy offers critical and necessary support during overwhelming periods of life, some of us feel as if life contains an "overwhelming period" on a nearly daily basis. Neurodivergent Therapies' owner (Alyson "Rae" Pittman, LPC) began wondering how the efficacy of therapy could be improved and the needed timeline shortened. One treatment addition for both of these goals is Neurofeedback (NFB) Training, a non-invasive and non-medication option for teaching your brain the rhythms, patterns, and "dance steps" your brain has yet to effectively learn.

I believe in the concept that people can not start from where they want to be, but have to begin their journey from where they are. We as people go through many challenges in our lives.  Sometimes we find ourselves struggling day to day, having to somehow meet all our ever-growing responsibilities. Some of us struggle with the pain we carry from our pasts, and it can feel as if this hurt is holding us back from finding joy in our present days. Some of us struggle with feelings we may not even understand.  We can feel burdened by these intense feelings and may not know how to move forward from these emotional and mental binds.

I believe that success is individual and that every person is the expert of their own life. I am grateful for each and every opportunity to witness change! Therapy is a process of learning about your own ability to solve your problems and build your own toolbox. For children, it is about learning many different tools to use in the many situations they will find themselves in as they grow up.

If you are here, you are probably hoping to find help for a challenge you or a loved one is facing. Congratulations on taking the first step towards overcoming this challenge. Making the decision to start counseling is often difficult and can be complicated by concerns that treatment may not be as helpful as you hoped, or that it may not work at all. Fortunately, it IS possible to find treatment that works! Maybe you are here because you or your child are struggling with mood swings, irritability, or loss of interest in things that were once enjoyable? Are you having difficulties at work or at home getting along with others?

You have experienced emotional bumps and bruises along the way as you have grown up. There is not a single parent or caregiver that gets it right all of the time, so it makes sense that you carry some difficult thoughts and feelings. Regardless of the hurts, these issues shake your confidence and influence how you show up in your relationships. It is a strange phenomena to find yourself both emotionally raw and numb at the same time. It is hard to make sense of these experiences, and you have done your best to adapt. You are so brave and you are not alone.

I believe in creating a safe place is that allows opportunity to build trust and connection. Openning up can be scary, stressful and difficult. As you to learn skills and self understanding you increase confindence as well as success. Changing thoughts and perspective will allow you to gain control over old fears and habits. Life experiences, big and small, can leave scars on us which can be labelled as anxiety, depression or trauma. Traumatic events such as accidents, illness, abuse or major loses can create a sense of numbing or shutting down that make it difficult to experience happiness or even relaxation.

Neurofeedback Therapists

How does neurofeedback work?

Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback, meaning it provides real-time information about one’s physiological functions—in this case, brain activity. As they receive this feedback, clients are guided by a computer program, typically via visual or auditory cues, which aims to modify the brain patterns associated with their negative symptoms. Over time, proponents argue, clients learn how to better regulate their own brain function and improve the symptoms that cause problems in day-to-day life.

How effective is neurofeedback?

Some research has found that neurofeedback can help treat conditions like ADHD, and anecdotal evidence suggests that many people who undergo neurofeedback find it beneficial. However, some experts have expressed skepticism, arguing that the evidence in favor of neurofeedback is thin or may be due to the placebo effect. While the procedure is generally seen as safe and has few side effects, it is not typically considered a first-line therapy and is instead often recommended as an adjunct treatment.

What are the limitations of neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is generally considered safe and most patients report manageable side effects, or none at all. However, the research on neurofeedback remains inconclusive, and some experts are skeptical that it’s as effective as its proponents claim. It can also be costly and may not be covered by insurance; thus, it’s important to confirm cost and insurance coverage before initiating a neurofeedback program.

How long does neurofeedback last?

A typical neurofeedback session lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. There is no set number of sessions needed for a course of neurofeedback. Before initiating a neurofeedback regimen, clients are advised to discuss the treatment timeline with their provider, as well as when they might expect to see results.
