Looking for a more active and experiential approach to therapy? Working with children, adolescents, adults and families I use horses as part of a treatment modality for issues such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, autism spectrum disorders, oppositional disorders, and adolescent issues. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is highly active and quickly engages even clients who have become disillusioned with more traditional therapeutic approaches. Horses and activites are combined to help clients recognize their typical approach to problems, what may or may not be working, and how to move forward.
The use of horses allows for unique feedback to clients in many areas: problem solving, listening, communication and examination of maladaptive life patterns. Horses are flight animals who establish relationships with others based upon their instincts. Clients must learn to relate to them honestly and authentically, great skills for life.
All work is done with 1 or more horses and a certified horse specialist in the arena. This is strictly a non riding program,the horses are used as part of the therapeutic process through meaningful interactions on the ground.
