Regardless of where you find yourself, you deserve to feel supported and heard. Life can bring many seasons. Some seasons can be challenging, making us question our worth and purpose. Other seasons feel permanent, leaving us feeling stuck and hopeless. Or maybe we experience a change, forcing us to shift and transition. My desire is to meet you exactly where you are, no matter the season you find yourself in. I hope to walk with you towards a place of growth as you realize your strengths and self-worth.

My goal as your therapist is to create a relationship that you can use for your own growth. While I only practice evidence-based treatments informed by the latest research, I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Therapy is an art as much as a science, one that is meant to honor your unique story and specific goals. Together we will explore your inner world and identify the beliefs and patterns that are keeping you from experiencing your life in the healthiest, most fulfilling, and most meaningful ways.

I love working with clients that are dealing with challenges, and assist them in gaining the tools they need to increase their ability to live a sustainable life. Growing up in an area filled with poverty, I developed a personal understanding of what it’s like to go without due to lack of basic needs. As a Black woman, I have also seen a lot of racial injustice as well as the impact of unaddressed mental health challenges due to limited resources and access to care. As a result of my lived experiences, I refuse to remain silent and I have a desire to support those who are normally looked over and forgotten about.

I work with women and adolescent girls who are navigating a variety of life challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, life transitions, grief and loss, and self-esteem or body image concerns. Women often face unique difficulties in the realm of mental health, but they also have unique strengths that deserve to be recognized and celebrated. I enjoy helping my clients identify and build upon their existing strengths to achieve their goals and create meaningful change in their lives. While I am passionate about connecting with women of all ages, I have extensive experience counseling adolescents and teens.

I provide both neuropsychological assessment and specialized psychotherapy services for adult and geriatric clients. Individuals referred for neuropsychological assessment are typically evaluated for cognitive or thinking difficulties related to neurological conditions (dementia, head injury, multiple sclerosis, seizure disorders, etc.), medical conditions (HIV, autoimmune disorders, cancer, pre/post surgical procedures), and psychological conditions such as depression and anxiety. My assessment practice is complimented by structured therapy including cognitive rehabilitation to compensate for cognitive weaknesses.

My hope is that our work together can reignite those things that bring you the most joy and life. Often this process involves working through the impact of loss, pain, or trauma in a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship. I work extensively with women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and much of my experience centers around religious trauma and spiritual wounding. My work is informed by humanistic and existential perspectives of psychotherapy, and I often incorporate the use of mindfulness techniques. I am also trained in a number of evidence-based clinical treatments including IFS, ACT, and EMDR.

Life can take turns that present difficult challenges. We experience those challenges in a number of different ways: difficulties adjusting to new circumstances, confusion in deciding on a career path, struggles in relationships, or coping with loss. Often we feel anxious, depressed, confused, or overwhelmed and need help dealing with feelings and problems that seem beyond our control. Help may come from friends, family members, or significant others, but in some cases help is needed from a trained professional. Therapy is a process that can help people identify more effective strategies both to cope with difficult situations and to achieve their goals.

CLARITY, PEACE of MIND, CONFIDENCE, JOY and a SKILL SET by which to create and sustain a happier, healthier life, sound good? Let's face it, despite our best efforts life gets crazy at times. We can ride the slow gradual wave of disconnectedness until one day we wake up wondering "How the heck did I get here?!" Without warning we find ourselves in what I call an "uncomfortable comfortable." This turbulence is a result of life unfolding in ways we never imagined. Situations we've tried our best to "deal with" because "that's just life."

Sometimes, your teen has experienced a traumatic event or is just having difficulty navigating life’s changes, such as divorce; the death of a family member; adoption; or adjusting to school, friends, and their self-identity. Communicating how they feel, especially to their parents, is not a teen’s strong point. As a result, both the teen and parents become frustrated. Adolescence is a significant life transition. Without some guidance (or interpreter), the process becomes a rocky road for all involved.

Being human. Along with the beautiful parts of life comes pain, struggle, and trauma. Everyone deserves a safe person with whom they can address these things and achieve real healing. Real relief. My first goal when beginning work with clients is to create that place where they can be their authentic selves...and feel accepted. To give them unconditional support without judgement. With this relationship formed, the deeper and holistic work can begin. Healing can happen. If you're struggling with self-esteem, trauma, mood disorders, substance use...or just struggling at all, we can work together to help you find peace.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Nashville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
