I help couples of all backgrounds who, as much as they try to break difficult cycles, find themselves repeating them over and over.
The pattern can sometimes look like one partner reaching out, increasing in intensity to feel something, to meet with someone and have their need acknowledged, but they often find themselves reaching out to someone who disconnects, goes silent, or withdraws into safety.
One partner feels alone, like they are the only one who cares about the relationship. The other partner feels like they are never good enough, and find themselves bracing for a fight they'd rather avoid.
In therapy I go beyond merely talking about the cycle. Most couples can name it better than I can; they are living it. I focus on interrupting the cycle to restore things the couple once had. Safety.
